An important part of #homesteading for us is to be able to make our own fuel, especially for cooking! And here’s a mini video of how we turn our outgrown tree branches into #charcoal last month. Check it out!
The weather is acting weird lately where we live. #ChiangMai got a #hailstorm yesterday despite the drying season. And for us, the heat has been unbearable! Hopefully there’ll be no wildfire like few years ago. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp-q3mItYUH/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y
Happy Earth Farm on Instagram: "When thinking of of organic farm life, what most people think of is a luscious green field with flowers blooming and or a grove of fruit trees with bountiful fruits. It’s there where animals, plants and planet living in harmony with happy faces. But the truth is, farm life is not always that beautiful. There is a time when almost everything is pretty much dead. The floor is full of fallen leaves and twigs. There’s very little signs of life around. That time is now, the summer months. The summer here can be quite harsh. It’s not just due to the heat or the lack of rain, but also the strong wind. Even the dry small twigs could catch a fire on their own. And that’s what happened to us back in 2021. Our farm was on fire. Within half an hour, one third of our field was burnt to ashes. We had to call a fire truck but by the time it arrived, the damage was already done. (Why the fire didn’t progress to the rest of our field is a story for another time.) It’s a painful sight to witness, but luckily the harvest season was already over and we were just waiting to mulch the dry grass preparing the field for the next growing season. So, thanks to the fire, we didn’t have to mulch it after all as the black carbon from the burning is returned to the ground as a natural fertilizer. Again, Mother Nature reminds us that life and death is two sides of the same coin. We can’t enjoy one without another. Farm life is not a happy ending or an easy escape from the reality. It’s just a life long journey in search of truth. Whether it’s pain or gain, we have to embrace it. And when we wholeheartedly accept it, that’s where happiness lies. #organicfarmlife #greenfield #bountifulfruits #livinginharmony #happyfaces #fire #summerheat #harvestseason #notoxliving #truth #reality #farmliving #earthishappy #summer #fire #farmfire"

@lanIka @neilhimself Thanks so much for the tip! Will first start by following you. šŸ’š šŸ™ 😊
@neilhimself We make all those at our farm! Kombucha, water kefir, jun, sourdough, gingerale, pickled bamboo, limes, fish or even pork! Live-cultured food is an important part of our tradition. Not sure if any Mastodon folks are into it but today is our first day here, so we’ll soon find out! Ps. Listened to the podcast till the end and totally love it! 😊

It's a podcast to fall asleep to. John Moe interviews people on subjects they can be dull about and witter on endlessly. Will me droning on about bagel-making, beekeeping and water kefir grains put you to sleep? Are Mastodon folk the kind who will listen to the end?

Neil Gaiman is perhaps least-known for his interest in SCOBY-s (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast), but that will no doubt change now that this episode has aired. Gaiman is a bestselling author…
