“Put yourself in their shoes” assumes shoes fit universally. Real empathy is more like: “Acknowledge they’re wearing shoes made for feet unlike yours, walking paths you’ve never trodden.”
Blue states have about 20 million more people than red states and a combined GDP of 19 trillion ranking them #1 ahead of China. Red states have a combined GDP of 9 trillion ranking them 3rd, behind China. Odd that voters let red state politicians make the national global trade decisions when the combined GDP they represent is 10 trillion less than that of blue states.
@jsmall IKR oh well this is the US they voted for 🤷‍♀️ and the rest of us will just get on with doing business together without them. They don’t even seem to realise there’s a pretty good rest of the world outside the US 🤦‍♀️
By the way, I still think this paragraph I wrote is a pretty good paragraph.

More joy for the feed.

The real problem has never been just unfair tariff’s, it has always been the imbalance of labor costs. Workers everywhere need to see their labor as a resource they market at a going rate, same price in Mexico, China, Taiwan, India, Europe and the US. Tariffs are just a national sales tax that shifts more of the costs to whats left of the middle class. Trade will never be 'fair' as long as we have multi-national corporations but few true multi-national unions.

And here's another reminder of the insider threat if you don't investigate your employees' or consultants' backgrounds and claimed credentials carefully enough. @briankrebs has the story and how a number of criminal cases may now be appealed or overturned:

No one should take out a student loan if they do not have the collateral or a really good lawyer/accountant look at the terms before signing. (2/2)
Letting banks administer student loans while the government backs them is a bad idea. It's like flood insurance where insurers are more than happy to sell and administer bad policies for a fee because the government pays any claims. With student loans the banks will also collect the interest. Taxpayers and students will foot the bill and banks will rake in the no risk money. (1/2)
