A philosophical path through an environmentally unstable time, Gaianism is a religious philosophy that grants the living Earth (Gaia) its rightful place at the centre. Humans are not the pinnacle of evolution but just a small (and not necessarily essential) part of the living Earth.

The Gaian Way is a community dedicated to this faith. We discuss, celebrate and share reflection together to develop and deepen our shared culture and practice.

Rethinking our priorities...

What is important in life?

Is it to have the best car and the newest smartphone, or is it to be happy?

Is it to have a high-paid job, or is it to spend time with loved ones and enjoy the beauties of nature?

For critics, degrowth is not very appealing. According to them, it means impoverishment, restraint, scarcity, austerity, or recession. It is seen as a project to reduce the overall prosperity of individuals and societies.

In contrast, I argue that degrowth aims to achieve abundance, prosperity, and richness.

Degrowth is about building societies in which everyone is rich – without much material.

It is impossible to promise everyone to achieve high levels of consumption. Indeed, that would lead to environmental and societal catastrophes. It would also be extremely unfair, as those most suffering from environmental degradation are already the most marginalised.

Instead, degrowth aims to achieve an abundance that does not entail high levels of consumption: a ‘frugal abundance’.

Degrowth aims to achieve ‘frugal abundance’

Degrowth is about building societies in which everyone is rich – without much material. It is a desirable project to strive for.

With the political developments of the past three months, we’re gonna talk #politics . This is where we can civilly explore the disconnect between the accelerating environmental #polycrisis and increasing denial of the causes. We’ll examine these challenges and ways to respond through an ecocentric Gaian lens. Join us if you want to talk politics.

Daylight savings time shifts our clocks around, but our circadian rhythms are also shaped by the natural world we belong to.

Gaian meditation encourages getting outdoors morning, noon, and evening - to observe, breathe, and reconnect with the real, natural world. A practice good for what one might call our soul, but also essential for our overall health and wellbeing.

This past weekend, I was listening to my karate sensei—an 85-year-old elder and founder of a karate style named Washin-ryu (or Peace/Harmony with Truth)—who regularly shares his thoughts and wisdom gleaned over his long life with his students. He once again said something deeply profound. He said: when you are angry, just imagine looking up at an eagle flying overhead.

Change doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.

This week’s reflection explores how the Gaian Way has grown—not with noise, but with deep-rooted, intentional action.

The Quiet Revolution That’s Occurred at the Gaian Way - Gaian Way

Introducing Communications Director Nikki Woods and her great work so far…

Nature is the greatest teacher. As the seasons shift, we are reminded that:

● Change is natural. Nothing remains the same, and each transition brings new
opportunities.

● Growth comes in cycles. Just as trees shed their leaves before blooming again, we, too, experience transformation.

● Rest is just as important as action. What if we honored our own need for rest?
