Minnesotans are more likely to be in a union and make higher wages on average than workers across America. But wide disparities between executives and rank-and-file workers persist https://minnesotareformer.com/2023/09/11/this-labor-market-just-wont-quit-5-charts-on-minnesotas-labor-economy/
This labor market just wonโ€™t quit: 5 charts on Minnesotaโ€™s labor economy - Minnesota Reformer

Minnesotans work at higher rates than the nation as a whole. They also are more likely to be in a union and earn more money. โ€œItโ€™s good to live in Minnesota,โ€ said Aaron Sojourner, a labor economist at the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. Now is especially a good time, as a labor shortage [โ€ฆ]

Let's stop pretending it's totally normal for a teacher to be willing to lay down his or her life for their students. No other country in the entire world demands this of their teachers. I don't think Americans understand just how truly weird this idea really is.

If you want safer schools (and we ALL want safer schools), pass reasonable, rational, constitutional gun control laws. Then we will all enjoy the result of safer schools. Don't foist that responsibility off onto the shoulders of our teachers just because you like the sound your little pew pew stick makes.

We are educators, not your personal bodyguards.

Elon Musk secretly used control of his Starlink network to cripple a Ukrainian military operation while it was under way, in defiance of American foreign policy.

He is an oligarch working against U.S. interests, benefitting his fellow oligarchs in Russia. His biographer seems to think this is just Musk being Musk, quirky and idiosyncratic.

The US is divided over abortion. But is a bipartisan pro-family agenda possible? Alyssa Rosenberg and Marc Thiessen from WaPo think so. I agree and their list is a good place to start!

"(N)othing in these proposals requires either side to concede its position on the underlying question of abortion. This...should not prevent people of goodwill from working together on something most Americans agree on: supporting families."

We disagree on abortion. Hereโ€™s a pro-family agenda both parties can support.

Thereโ€™s common ground for both parties to get behind.

Dear white friends: It's Black Friday when Black Mastodon celebrates its cultural heritage.

Follow the hashtag periodically today. I've already enjoyed music I haven't heard since I was a teenager; I've also seen some great artwork and bookmarked some reading material.

Expand your world with #BlackFriday every week. Boost Black and BIPOC voices as you do so.

And follow @BlackAzizAnansi who's made a great start increasing Mastodon's cultural diversity.

Coffee drinkers! Listen! Starbucks workers nationwide are starting a 3-day strike today (Friday 12/16) as part of their effort to unionize.

How can you help? Don't cross the picket line. Get your coffee elsewhere. (Preferably at independent coffee shops. Long live small biz).

And spread the word! Make this message viral. Let's hold billionaire corps accountable because worker's rights are human rights. Let's go.

If youโ€™re new to Mastodon and want to be an ally/anti-racist, actively track and boost content from Black and BIPOC voices. These two hashtags are a good start:

If you're trying to find journalists on Mastodon, I've created a verified database of several hundred here: http://presscheck.org. Since the backlog has become enormous, the unverified waiting list is now public also: http://presscheck.org/pending

Remember: Twitter is Elon's company, he has the free speech and free association right to run it pretty much however he wants and to ban people for petty narcissistic reasons.

And we have the right to laugh and point at his ridiculousness and at the free-speech pretenses of his gullible fans.

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.
