What happens when you outsource to politicians the work of the Church. The problem post-Dobbs is that the pro-life legislation passed previously was crafted as virtue signals, unexpected to activate. When it did, it looked vindictive and created a caricature of "pro-life."
It's not that we shouldn't be pro-life, but we were far too content with grand gestures that were empty. Notice how as soon as pro-life legislation _could_ do something, the political will to write it dried up and those who previous had started finding excuses not to.
Why? Because politicking is performance art and we are fools when we hand our responsibilities over to that realm. Real pro-life work following God's value of life is actually doing it: caring from the very first moments of life until the last. Christians are actually doing this -- seriously, I know incredible people who have put their efforts where their mouths are for years -- but the over-focus on politicking overshadows the genuinely good work to value life. Outsourcing to politics never works.
