We don't know what is was used for, maybe the shape relates to the content (fish sauce), maybe it was used to hold oil.

While its exact findespot is unknown, comparable pieces have been found in Tanagra burials.

This is a marvelous example of whimsy and craftsmanship! A rare Greek askos, made in the shape of a lobster claw. Dating back to approximately 450 BC, the vessel was used to hold perfumed oil. 🦞
