Do you sing solo? It can even be in the shower, into your hairbrush, or in the car! If so, take a few minutes to help out my wonderful colleague with her research into solo singing.

I've been thinking for a while about this, & the field in general & an event/special issue on Why Fan Studies matters keeps coming to me. Anniversary of the 1992 poachers/enterprising women/adoring audience soon & I do wonder if that's a good time to reflect on where we are. #FanStudies
Even the word 'period' is now politicised. That makes Judy Blume's classic ode to puberty especially relevant

Judy Blume’s Are You There God? It’s me, Margaret is a coming-of-age story about identity, relationships, and relationships with your own body. It’s frequently challenged – and enduringly loved.

"In Defense of Studying 'Basket Weaving' at College" 🧺

An essay on why cultural subjects that get derided for being silly or frivolous (and, surprise surprise, are historically the province of women and indigenous groups) turn out to be intellectually fascinating, deep, and practical as hell

In Defense of Studying “Basket Weaving” At College - Clive Thompson - Medium

Last week, Nathan Heller published a long reported piece in the New Yorker that explored the dramatic decline in students studying the humanities at college.

@jypersian My latest: “this is a conceptual paper. Even though it says it is conceptual and design it to be so, I still wish it was empirical.” (Paraphrased, obvs)

@binarythis I actually hated it less? I mean, Emily is still annoying AF and I have issues with what they’re playing at with Camille, but overall, it was okay?

Oh, except Maddie. Kate Walsh deserved better.

I'm so excited they are making a #film of the #JudyBlume #YA novel 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret?' and that it's set in the 1970s

This was a crucial book and when I was 11 or 12 I read it like a manual

I watched the trailer like "they had better have the 'I must, I must, I must increase my bust' bit in here" and of course I was not disappointed

I reckon everyone who's wanted bigger boobs has tried this at least once

New publication from the UniSQ Human Research Ethics Committee!

"The ethics review and the humanities and social sciences: disciplinary distinctions in ethics review processes"
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/17470161221147202

We argue for HASS disciplines to engage more rather than less with ethical review processes and advocate for the possibilities of generative interdisciplinary ethical review based on our own practices as a committee at a small regional university.

Huge thanks to my wonderful co-authors!
