Recently, "Very Finnish Problems" posted a very strange list of "fun facts about the #Finnish #language". As a linguist, I wasn't amused at all, and here, finally, comes my own version: probably not that "fun", but at least with some real facts. https://kielioblog.wordpress.com/15-1-facts-about-the-finnish-language/

Do I need to sign up for a course in Word? (and Excel?)
It's starting to read like a Hitchhiker's Guide to The English Language.
And towards the end, it's just anecdote soup.
I feel it would be irresponsible to pass the book in without adding margin notes...

@DervPerv I just googled the author, he's not a linguist and wrote about a little bit of everything. Maybe he's good at vulgarisation, but I'd doubt it to be totally accurate.

One of the best book I know about the history of English is "A History of the English Language" by Albert C. Baugh & Thomas Cable.

Wanted to read a book on the history of the English language. This book by Bill Bryson is an interesting read but certain information about Aussie English and about the Japanese writing system are patently incorrect, which casts doubts in my mind about other information.
Also his description of the British colonisation of Australia is bad even for 1990 standards.
First and maybe last time I'll read his work.
Definitely will seek out a more academically rigorous text next time.
