Vicodin: taking the "beg" out of Vibe Coding.

There's a meme or a joke in there somewhere.

New hat just dropped.

The knight paused his charger. “Ho, child, what name ye this village?”

The young girl so addressed kept walking, a bucket in each hand.

“YOU THERE! I SAID…”

The door of the smithy that stood on the outskirts of the settlement opened. “Good morrow, Sir Knight”

“And to you, Smith. I was about to instruct this rude youngster…”

The smith regarded the cooling red-tipped spike in her hand, and called out to the girl “Mim, what do we teach you about courtesy to knights?”

“We don’t fuckin talk to cops, Smith”

“No instruction necessary, as you can see”

Colorado is constructing what state transportation officials say will be the "world's largest" wildlife overpass crossing https://t.co/VQZPMbolYa
"World's largest" wildlife overpass coming to Colorado

The project is part of a massive effort to keep animals and drivers safer on one of the state's busiest highway stretches.

I found a technician who'd work on a Linux machine, and she solved my problem (I had no wifi whatsoever) the same day that she received it.

I realize the culture of Linux "fix it yourself!" and I tried. I got a buddy to help. We couldn't figure it out, so I paid a professional to fix it and then tell me how she did it.

I want to normalize this. For Linux to be viable, it can't just be a hobby OS. Paying pros to fix it, and set it up for you, is part of that.

After the Song Thrush yesterday, today's '#wildlife that I can see through my home office window and pick up my phone in time to capture' is going mammalian with a Field Vole. (A little bonus #lichenSubscribe action too).

以前想模仿水边乱石滩的效果,用了树形和毯型的两种苔藓。苔藓跌跌撞撞的枯了又长,如今似乎真的像石滩芦苇丛了。

Linux Breaks 5% Desktop Share in U.S., Signaling Open-Source Surge Against Windows and macOS

Linux has surpassed 5% desktop market share in the US (5.03% in June 2025), per StatCounter, driven by privacy concerns, rising costs of Windows/macOS, and user-friendly distros like Ubuntu. Community celebrates amid gaming and enterprise boosts, though challenges like software gaps persist; analysts eye 7% by 2027.

@Sheril Damn! Why is #CarlSagan correct again?
@kkarhan Because he was clever. 🤷‍♂️
@shinydelight @kkarhan the guy was smart enough to see what was coming. Shame no one listened

@shinydelight @kkarhan

Clever is the asswipe who can't stop bragging about how much his Palantar shares are worth now. Clever is the guy who believes selling a thing is as good or better than understanding how it workes.

Sagan wasn't clever, he was deeply curious and committed to pursuing that curiosity. Even when that pursuit led him to places he didn't like. That's the difference between clever and intelligent. He was the opposite of the person who, as he so deftly identified, couldn't distinguish between what was true and what made them feel good.

"He who by force of will or of thought is great, and overlooks thousands, has the charges of that eminence. With every influx of light comes new danger. Has he light? he must bear witness to the light, and always outrun that sympathy which gives him such keen satisfaction, by his fidelity to new revelations of the incessant soul."

Sagan was a great thinker of his generation who remains so today 40 years after his bearing witness to the truth he so plainly saw in front of us all.

@Sheril best book I ever read. Seems I need to gift a few more dozen copies.
@Sheril @0x0ddc0ffee big same. one of those curses of prophecy
@Sheril Trump is the Anti-Carl.
@Sheril - Between Sagan's "Demon Haunted World" and Asimov's "Cult of Ignorance" 1980 article, it's utterly terrifying (though not surprising) how presient these futurists turned out to be.
@Sheril Well, it really hasn't been that difficult to see and predict the outcome of life here when actors like Reagan are elected to office. Where Jerry Falwells are your go to religious leaders. Where a news commentator is elected the Senator from NC.

@Sheril

We live in extraordinary and fascinating times, poised on the brink of something either too wonderful to imagine or too terrible to contemplate. Probably, given what we know of life, a bit of both. But the mix remains vital and possibly still within our powers of control. What worries me most is that we have an alarming tendency to tilt the balance in the wrong, the ugly way.

#LyallWatson "Dark Nature" 1995

@Sheril That book should be required reading for high school, but they’d just find a reason to ban it if it was.
@Sheril accurate. Couldn’t be more prescient.
@Sheril Yes… And it seems unavoidable…
@Sheril not very scientific but - wow
@Sheril Thanks for the reminder.
@Sheril I was a 13 years girl when Reagan got elected and I can clearly remember cycling to school that morning with an intense sense of loss
@Sheril I have thinking of this book for some years, now.
