👋 Hello #fediverse! I'm going into a meeting at 4ET to talk about our newsroom's social media options.
If you think our station and other #NPR stations should have a Mastodon server or a broader presence in the #fediverse, pls boost this post. If you have thoughts, please reply, I want to hear them!
Hi! I'm Nora and I have a store! It's about half handmade fused glass and half other stuff. Bolo ties, pendants, earrings, bookmarks and more! https://www.nora.jewelry/
I'm really struggling with reach right now so boosts are very appreciated! #handmade #glass #glasstodon #art #artistsonmastodon #artistsofmastodon
It’s such an accidental godsend that the two people who developed the podcast RSS standard were completely uninterested in profits and monetization. It was one weird old hippie with fuck you amounts of tech industry money and a former music tv host burned by that industry so they made it open and free and accessible and resilient for listeners, with nothing set aside for ads and metrics and subscriptions.
19yrs later, we’re so lucky it turned out that way.
When I Bookmark something, it's just for me.
When I Like something, it's just for me and the person who made the post.
When I boost something, it's because I want to share it with others.
There's no software in the background recording and evaluating my behavior so it can decide the best ads to show me, and what I should see or not see in my feed to increase my engagement.
It's pretty nice not being the product anymore and just enjoying the web again.
#Mastodon & #TwitterMigration FTW
I’m going to tell you the story of the man who solved a crime.
Not, like, a cop who put together the clues and got his man, but a person who took a crime as old as civilization and fixed the problem where it got you in trouble.
The man: Artur Virgílio Alves Reis.
The place: 1920s Portugal.
The crime: Counterfeiting.
The problem he fixed: That the money is counterfeit.
(This is going to be a long 🧵 . Just trust me.)
We weren't wandering people 😂
