Someone who is dreaming of an interconnected self-configuring, delay & disruption tolerant network, owned and run by individuals for the good of all, which provides forward secrecy, privacy, digital sovereignty by default, authentication when needed, without any blockchain, middlemen, or global authority

Failure is always an option

In the long run #OpenSource is all which remains ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All closed source, usually commercial, software comes with a hidden sell-by-date. For whatever reason — a merger, a hostile takeover, a new management paradigm, incompatible OS update, a bad financial year — someone you will never know can pull a rug and —puff— it's gone.

When what you do is difficult, find a better way to do it

When what you do is easy, find something better to do

When you're lost, don't panic: Make camp, explore & map the territory

Always take the initiative

Teach by example, with patience and kindness

Never cruel, never cowardly

Try to be nice, never fail to be kind

Always tell them what they need to know, never lie about what they have a right to know

Programming is to me a lot like cooking: I'm not chef and I don't want to be one… I just want to make a tasty, healthy meal for me and mine? Likewise I don't want to be a software engineer, but I do want to know how to write a beautiful, useful programs for me and mine? And maybe swap the recipes with others? Write code for others to read, to try out, to adjust, to learn from, and to inform their own future programming and likewise mine

#Q: Why is #GNUStep stuck looking like 1990s #OpenStep?
Some of the books I have written in the past 30 years. Some are not in the stack, some are not even on my homepage (http://t3x.org), some are out of print. I have lost track over the years. It has been quite a journey, though.

Which OS would be best to run on my tiny self-hosted SSH server with at most ~20 concurrent shell users, usually ~3?

Business idea:

Build a warehouse, with lots of silent rooms, quiet enough to hear a pin drop, collect all those pins and sell them… infinite money

Protecting young people’s online safety is incredibly important, but to do so by forcing invasive ID checks, criminalizing AI tools, and banning teens from legitimate digital spaces is not a good way out of this. Tell Congress to oppose the GUARD Act today. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/surveillance-mandate-disguised-child-safety-why-guard-act-wont-keep-us-safe
A Surveillance Mandate Disguised As Child Safety: Why the GUARD Act Won't Keep Us Safe

A new bill sponsored by Sen. Hawley (D-MO), Sen. Blumenthal (D-CT), Sen. Britt (R-AL), Sen. Warner (D-VA), and Sen. Murphy (D-CT) would require AI chatbots to verify all users’ ages, prohibit minors from using AI tools, and implement steep criminal penalties for chatbots that promote or solicit certain harms. That might sound reasonable at first, but behind those talking points lies a sprawling surveillance and censorship regime that would reshape how people of all ages use the internet.
