@patnat @doener Die „Toeslagenaffaire“ scheint noch immer nicht ausgestanden.

Ich hab mal ein bisserl gegoogelt und das ist haarsträubend.
Betroffen sind mehr als 10.000 Familien. Die unberechtigten Rückforderungen und Strafen haben die Meisten wirtschaftlich ruiniert – sehr viele auch psychisch und sozial – etwa 2.000 Kinder hat die Jugendbehörde in Heime und Pflegefamilien zwangseingewiesen. Trotz Gerichtsurteil gegen die Behörde und einer Vereinbarung 2021 über 30.000€ sind viele Betroffene nicht entschädigt, sondern werden weiter(!) drangsaliert. An die 2.000 Betroffene (Eltern und Kinder) sind mittlerweile tot.

Und all das, weil die Beamten sich anweisungsgemäß auf eine Software verlassen haben, die mit massiv rassistischem Profiling programmiert war.

I see some possibilities all are my opinion. First they evoluted to have larger legs to have a bigger distance to the ground and it's easier to walk over sand. Some desert beetles collect a big water drop with their body in the cool morning. A rough an big surface and the long legs could help here. With this features it looks for us as a spider by coincidence.
Second they try to scare predators of the same size looking like a spider. Third the predators are birds and ...

they avoid a poisonous spider from a region far away which looks the same. Some sort of bird driven evolution.

@alexwild would the pits and larger surface area be there for water condensation? Have heard of some bugs that get their water by basically drinking it off themselves. Although I don't know if their habitat is in a desert area of Texas, it's rather big 🤔 just saw the pitting continues on the head. Could do interesting things with surface tension and the large abdomen would add surface area? 🤷‍♀️
