It’s me. ConnConnection from Twitter. Welcome to whatever this will turn into. I will be tooting about the intersection of mental health and the law, disability, justice, politics, pop culture, adoptee rights, and soccer.

The pre-Covid “normal” wasn’t working for so many people — so I have no desire to go back to that. Same way I have no desire to make a country that wasn’t “great” for so many that way again.

What I can’t get over is how some folks prefer to pretend that the already-existing systemic disparities exacerbated by the pandemic aren’t present and are fine doing nothing to address them and want to continue with this “you do you” individualized adventure.

Still not quite sure how this platform works which is why you’ll still find me on the bird app. Thank you to new followers — if I recognize you from the other place, I’m following you back. Right now I only check in here once or twice a week so if I haven’t followed you back yet, that might be why!

They want you to believe that a society that centers the needs of the most vulnerable & most marginalized would be worse for you. They don't want you to understand that a society that did this would be much better for you & that you are as disposable to them as we are.

They bank on you taking a dismissive attitude towards us, pathologizing, stigmatizing & sacrificing us bc that’s easier than listening to us & considering that what we’re seeing/saying is quite possibly what’s actually happening.

I'll never shut up about #Covid. It's a #justice and #access issue. Please #maskup as this is airborne (plus masking will decrease chances of catching other airborne diseases and decrease allergens). Please push for #CRBox and other #AirFilter devices to be placed in all interior spaces. If we work together in solidarity, we really can push back this disease and slow (if not stop) the mass death and disablement that is currently happening!

Mask up and stay safe friends. Thanks for reading.

All,

The moment has finally arrived! 🥳

@McCullohMD
and I have been hard at work for the past week putting together a Mastodon instance so that we can create a backup disability and chronic illness community.

It can be found here:

https://disabled.social

For now, we have set up a terms of service, privacy policy, rules and best practices.

I have plans to set up a Twitter space to go through each of these with the disability community directly to add/subtract/reword things.

disabled.social

A place for people who are chronically ill, mentally ill, disabled, and friends/families/allies to come together, meet, share knowledge and random banter, and just about anything else.

Mastodon hosted on disabled.social

I’ve boosted lots of info about CWs this week. I’ve also seen CWs weaponized against BIPOC and other marginalized folks, so want to clarify:

White ppl, it’s racist to ask BIPOC to CW racism. Racism CWs are Not For You. (Same goes for other axes of discrimination. If you’re holding the privilege, STFU.)

It’s not ok to harass/confront people about CWs. Just move along. You have tools to curate your feed.

I will boost marginalized voices on this issue. Feel free to unfollow/block me for that. 👋

People with disabilities gained a voice in global climate talks. Here's what that means

A group of climate activists who focus on disability rights have been pushing for several years for inclusion of disability rights in international climate action pledges.

Looks like more people are headed over here. I’ll stay there for as long as I can stand it because frankly I don’t want to leave. If it becomes untenable I guess you’ll see me tooting a lot. 🐘
