For everyone wondering how to consent in or out of the upcoming Quote Post feature, I wrote a little Mastodon tip for you: https://infosec.exchange/@Em0nM4stodon/114826324160548404
Em :official_verified: (@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange)

Attached: 1 image Tiny Mastodon Tip About Quote Posts :mastodon: 📢 If your instance is already running the newly released version Mastodon 4.4, Know that in preparation for the full implementation, the team has included a consent setting for the upcoming Quote Post feature. While quoting a post will not be available as a native feature until Mastodon 4.5 later this year, it's wonderful that you can adjust if you want in or not before it even arrives! :awesome: HOW TO❓ 1. From the web interface, go to "Preferences" on the right-side menu. Then click on "Other" under the "Preferences" section :blocky_white_cursor: 2. If your instance was newly updated, you should now see an option in "Posting Defaults" for "Who can quote" (see image below) 👇 Note: If the option isn't there, your instance has not updated to the version including it yet. Be patient, it will likely be added in the weeks to come. 3. From the "Who can quote" drop-menu, you can choose either "Everyone", "Followers and mentioned users", or "Only mentioned users" :ablobcatnod: 4. Once the next version is released, you will be ready for Quote Posts! No matter your choices 💪 5. Enjoy the freedom of choosing the features you wish to participate in (or not)! 😌✨ For more information on Quote Posts, you can read Mastodon's announcement blog about it here: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/02/bringing-quote-posts-to-mastodon/ #TinyMastodonTip #Mastodon #Fediverse #QuotePosts

@Tzipporah

Good luck; you'll have it whether you need it or not.

Slowly figuring things out. I think my stress acne has started to clear up a bit lol 💕

@ai6yr

That's ridiculous.

Also, can I actually just rant about a whole bunch of websites, some of which happen to be Fediverse instances, while we're ostensibly on the topic?

Anyway: keepassxc can be used to generate passwords up to a maximum 128 characters long, at least AFAIK. Or I've never found an option for anything longer than that. You know how many sites will not except a password that long? You wanna know how many won't even accept the maximum length that's supported by Proton Pass, which from what I've seen is 64? Yeah, me neither. I can already name more than a couple of them offhand, and I learned that the irritating way. One of them is the patient portal for my doctor's office. I'm sorry, but when I already have a program installed on my computer that's sufficient to generate passwords that, realistically, cannot possibly be learned through brute force either now or at any point in the foreseeable future, if ever—I would like to be allowed to use such a tool, even at its limit as if somehow that's asking too much, especially in the interest of protecting something as important as my own medical records.

@alice

Stealing this one from you now, thanks. People are gonna be so confused. 🙂

I heard someone refer to air-quotes as "in bunnies" and now that'll live rent-free in my head forever.

Like:

- Amazon Fresh's produce is anything but fresh in bunnies.

- Thought leaders in bunnies are regurgitating other's talking points, but with a white male face on it.

- Do you like me, or do you like like me in bunnies?

@capibarabot

So athletic.

"The leading international authority that certifies dark sky parks says the artificial light from #AlligatorAlcatraz 'directly threatens' the preserve’s renowned natural darkness and disrupts endangered #nocturnal #wildlife."

Darkness is crucial to Everglades habitat. Could Alligator Alcatraz threaten it?

Artificial light in a world-renowned “dark sky” preserve is just one of the environmental and human health concerns surrounding the facility.
