Ein besonders spannender Aspekt der #Bioelektronik ist, dass die Längenskalen der #Mikroelektronik in den letzten Jahren in den Bereich der #Molekularbiologie vorgedrungen sind. Heute werden #Transistoren mit kritischen Abmessungen im Nanometerbereich (#nm) gefertigt, also wie sie auch in #biologischen Molekülen auftreten.

Im Bild ist links die elektronenmikroskopische Aufnahme eines #FinFET gezeigt, eines Feldeffekt-Transistors, bei dem eine Hafnium-haltige Schicht eine Dicke von nur 2 nm aufweist. Daneben ist der #Hämoglobin-Tetramer gezeigt, dem roten #Blutfarbstoff, der aus vier fast gleichen Molekülen aufgebaut ist und Abmessungen von ca. 4 nm aufweist.

Die menschliche #Technologie ist also auf den Längenskalen biologischen #Lebens angekommen.
