Lydia Polgreen gets it spot-on in the New York Times. We have a crisis of nurse vacancies in the United States and there can be no surprise: chronic understaffing and leadership inattention to unsafe, unsupported working conditions. The solutions are right in front of us. Will leaders have moral courage to adopt them? https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/18/opinion/nurses-strike-pay-staffing-ratios.html

Opinion | Nurses Are Burned Out and Fed Up, With Good Reason

A recent strike in New York is just the latest sign of a growing crisis in American health care.

If you are the kind who says, “You know, I'd mask on flights if WHO or the CDC said I should,” I guess you can now start masking on flights.

WHO urges travellers to wear masks as new COVID variant spreads

Countries should consider recommending that passengers wear masks on long-haul flights, given the rapid spread of the latest Omicron subvariant of COVID-19 in the United States, World Health Organization (WHO) officials said on Tuesday.

Hi there! Sending a friendly reminder to schedule your cancer screenings. In the past couple weeks I have 3 people I know personally newly diagnosed with breast cancer, one who is only 43 with zero family history.

Remember that catching things early usually leads to a much better prognosis. Stay health friends!

Please boost this if you still haven’t gotten #covid
Interesting note: Last week I posted a response about the NYT article on Ascension. One on twitter (~4800 followers) and linkedin (~750 connections). Twitter listed 700 impressions; linked in nearly 6,000. The metrics aren't quite the same but the point being things are changing and I'm still trying to figure out where I'll be.

As a result, 3 seniors (all 75+ with risk factors) tested +. All symptomatic

but did ok bc they had BOTH omicron booster and access to pax.

This is very important bc we lost tools (monoclonals and evushield) this week so…

Lesson:
get your seniors boosted & have a pax plan!

A friend of mine on here needs #puppies and #kittens - stat (they know who they are). So you know what to do (and no, I'm not cross-posting this)
Since we're dual-posting :) #academictwitter: my annual reminder for boundary setting & #selfcare Enter your away dates for journals you often review for. They won't reach out to you during those times. Give yourself some lag time so you are not pegged just before you leave & right when you return.
I haven't tried this yet but Movetodon promises to be more user friendly in helping you find Twitter friends on Mastodon.
