The #FDroid website has a new banner on top to remind visitors that #Google did not change course and #Android will be locked-down in under 200 days.

If you care about the freedom to control your devices and care about the privacy of you data, please contact your representative and make your voice heard.

https://keepandroidopen.org/ (thanks @marcprux) has the resources to guide you.

We know users will rarely visit the site so the Client(s) will get a banner soon too.

Thank you for your support!

Borland TurboVision (the PC text mode windowing UI used in Turbo Pascal/C++) has been open-sourced and updated to work seamlessly on Linux and with Unicode:

It’s all in C++, though if someone hasn’t wrapped it in bindings for Python/Rust/&c. yet, surely they will

How UI degrades over time.

Top (Windows 95): great contrast, obvious shapes. Instantly readable.

Middle (Windows 11): shapes are still self-explanatory, but contrast is gone.

Bottom (Windows 11 Insiders): what am I even looking at? The only shape I can understand here is the Run button. Barely visible, though.

Then, on the left, there’s another something that says Run and has an icon. What is it? A window title? Another button? Why does it have to say Run twice?

Finally got my new workbench setup, decided to replace the ballast as even with new tubes it was having some trouble starting correctly.

The guy I got the workbench from got it from when he was working at Nortel.

Based on the answers to this StackOverflow question and this blog post, here are the 16 (!!!) AI-related settings in new versions of Firefox that you'll want to disable/set to false, and that might be turned back on with each update:

- browser.aiwindow.enabled
- browser.ml.chat.enabled
- browser.ml.chat.menu
- browser.ml.chat.page.footerBadge
- browser.ml.chat.page.menuBadge
- browser.ml.chat.page
- browser.ml.chat.shortcuts
- browser.ml.chat.sidebar
- browser.ml.enable
- browser.ml.linkPreview.enabled
- browser.ml.pageAssist.enabled
- browser.ml.smartAssist.enabled
- browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled
- browser.tabs.groups.smart.userEnabled
- extensions.ml.enabled
- sidebar.notification.badge.aichat

Enter "about:config" in the browser bar and then search for each of these and disable them, turn them off, or set them to false as appropriate.

Depending on which version of Firefox you have you may not have all these configuration options.

Check your smartphone browsers too!

How to disable all the AI features in Firefox to increase performance?

I want my browser to be as snappy as possible and I find all the recently introduced AI features to be unnecessary. How to disable all of them? This question is relevant to Ask Ubuntu because Fire...

i had no idea Inherit the Earth has had its own webcomic for over 20 years, and is still publishing new issues at https://inherittheearth.net

i'm amazed that joe pearce (and the many artists who have drawn the comic over the years) have continued to put so much work into this MS-DOS classic which came out over 30 years ago. *this* is the best way of preserving software: by continuing to make it relevant to new generations of players/fans.

Recent discussion about the perils of doors in gamedev reminded me of a bug caused by a door in a game you may have heard of called "Half Life 2". Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin.
