Still exploring new ways to photograph the beautiful white throat dipper in his river habitat. This time: in flight as it flies over the foaming waters of a nearby waterfall.

#birds #photography

Some dipper goodness from last week outing. Now enjoying a week back in France with my family, looking for birds of prey in the mornings and editing some leftovers in the afternoons.

Still in need a proper routine to check on here, struggling more than I anticipated

Dear Mastadon hivemind:

The http://www.BiodiversityStripes.info website is highlighting biodiversity loss, globally and regionally using a similar concept to the climate stripes.

We are looking for other sources of biodiversity data which can be turned into stripes to highlight this critical issue.

Any leads for long & coherent time series welcome!

BIODIVERSITY STRIPES

The biodiversity stripes show the variety and abundance of nature over time. From greater in green to less in grey.

BIODIVERSITY STRIPES
Enjoyed the cold spell hanging over Bergen this weekend with a long morning outing by the river. A crisp -9°C with hoarfrost covered banks, I spent 3 hours with not one, but there white throat dippers! Now to sort the 750+ images...

Still trying to get an activity routine both on here and on the bird app. Finding Mastodon harder to navigate and interact with.

Well, since I gave my #introduction as a wildlife photographer and a researcher, let's start by showcasing the former! Here are some of my favorite shots from this year.

You'll find my regular uploads on instagram (https://www.instagram.com/come_denechaud_photography/) and all collections in high res and more on my website (https://www.comedenechaud.com/).

Scientists ‘re-discover’ lost pigeon species in Papua New Guinea

Scientists captured it on camera for the first time ever — with just hours to spare on a scientific expedition aimed at finding the long-lost bird.

Sunday Plankton Factoid! 🦐🦠
One of the best known zooplankton in freshwater environments are from the superorder Diplostraca (often referred to as Cladocera or water fleas). On the left is Daphnia pulex with neonate babies ready for release. They reproduce almost entirely through parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction) so almost every individual is a female clone. Under environmental stress males are produced and sexual mating results in big tough, distinctively dark resting eggs called ephippia.

At the moment this site feels a little like the awkward first days of a #conference where you don't really know anyone and are wondering what the etiquette is.. At some point the posters will go up and the refreshments will come out...

#introduction

Hi everyone! Figured it is now time for a proper intro.

I'm Côme, a #fish ecologist 🐟based in Norway and working on Atlantic cod and the influence of climate change and fisheries. Expect quite a bit of otolith nerdiness!

I'm also a passionate wildlife photographer 📷 with a knack for sea birds. You'll find my Insta in bio for regular updates, as well as my website combining both sides of my life.

Other hobbies include reading SFF, volleyball, my reptiles and anything outdoor!
