Masked up and distanced.

With all my issues, friends & family joke that I'm a grown-up "bubble boy". (Name's also a reference to Mega Man 2.)

I have a lot of illnesses. I work part time at home. When not working, I'm often playing video games or watching something on a streaming service.

I used to love to go hiking and traveling. 😢

Immune system issuesHaT, MCAS, AATD, and IgA & IgM deficiencies
Alsomigraine, hypermobile EDS, POTS, and survived stage IV colon cancer
Likelyautism and ADHD
Also possiblyAnkylosing Spondylitis (HLA-B27 mutation & horrific back pain)

If you consider yourself an ally of disabled students, faculty, and staff, ask yourself how many barriers you've challenged in your workplace, department, office, lab. Disclosing #disability in and of itself is often a challenge for disabled folks. Every time we have to explain our disability in relation to an inaccessible form or discriminatory policy, that's work. You can identify and challenge those barriers too.

“Mast cells are an important part of the immune system found throughout the body. MCAS affects many different organ systems. When dysregulated, mast cells release an overabundance of chemicals, including histamine.

MCAS is involved in multiple conditions, and mast cell activation can vary from allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis to chronic symptoms including depression or osteoporosis.

A recent study indicates #MCAS affects as much as 17% of the population.”

Once again, I'm the only one wearing a mask on public transit.

When you're in a heatwave, have to open windows for fresh air in the evening, and a neighbor sprays some stinky perfume that makes you have an anaphylactic reaction...

I thought about, and forgot to have a drink of water before I left. Definitely should have hydrated first.

So, my lovely tooters, take this an a reminder to drink some water.

Go on... I'll wait.

Starting today, around 15 million people will be kicked off Medicaid. This is what happens when governments pretend the pandemic is over, instead of acknowledging #COVID is a long-term issue that continues to harm and requires lasting structural changes.

Biden is going to allow a GOP-led resolution to end the #COVID national emergency one month early pass without vetoing it. Disgusting.

Every time I share a study (and there's been over 200) that finds #COVID19 damages brains, hearts, and immune systems, some well-intentioned person reshares it and says something like, "but this data comes from before omicron" or "from before so many had hybrid immunity." Please stop doing that. It takes 12-18 months to conduct and analyze these studies. COVID is evolving fast. We need to stop discounting studies as dated and start looking at what they all tell us!

The team's analysis showed that immunocompromised patients overall had a 44% higher risk of death in hospital than patients with normal immune systems. This difference remained even accounting for age, sex and other chronic medical conditions.

Over the course of the pandemic, although the risk of death for all patients decreased, the researchers found that risk decreased much more for immunocompetent patients and the gap widened for immunocompromised patients.
