help they could get. Good mic placement makes sure that folks online as well as folks in the room who are hard-of-hearing or are used to another accent can get the best audio possible to work with.

- Don't treat those attending online as some lesser form of attendee - if you throw it open to Q & A, make sure you're making it possible for those online also to submit questions.

PhD Fellowship in Urban Morphology, Accessibility and Mobility Cultures

A PhD where I really think someone with disabilities that affect their mobility should apply. Unfortunately, bullshit like "ability to...handle a heavy workload" means it'll probably be abled urbanists doing things disabled people should be doing.

my alma mater just embarrassed itself:

"A neurodivergent adult student has abandoned his degree after being accused of cheating by the University of Canterbury"

I’m getting increasingly irate about my university’s subtle, quiet move to removing online & hybrid access for staff. Talks/training were almost always hybrid when I started. A few months on, more and more is ‘in person only.’ Universities, you have disabled staff working remotely for multiple access reasons. Our access matters. #AcademicAbleism
I'm at a fantastic webinar on the Politics and Practices of University Exclusion, sharing findings from #SocialResearch with/led by marginalised researchers in universities - beginning with a research project on LGBT+ staff on the rainbow lanyard & experiences of support/exclusion in universities. Talks coming up from racially minoritised & disabled researchers on their work/networks. One theme coming through is the extra labour of #MarginalisedResearchers that #Academia relies on from them but doesn't compensate. Another is a lack of accountability e.g. when trying to navigate anonymous systems. Loved one participant's call for solidarity between academics from many oppressed groups. #AcademicRacism #AcademicTransphobia #AcademicAbleism

@elduvelle Ableism is what slants it. Right now people comparing in-person and online conference options are comparing apples and road apples.

Ableism ensures that all of society makes as little investment as possible into accessible options (as you can see by how we're not learning lessons from the pandemic, rolling back most online options & training & development of online pedagogy/event planning). #Conferences #Ableism #Pedagogy #AcademicAbleism

I brought a couple of complaints to my HR recently & damn, I'm happy. They confirmed what I thought (yes, this looks an awful lot like disability discrimination) & are investigating. Fingers crossed folks. HR is not always the friend of disabled folks in #HigherEd so I had to share the news.

Also, to all of my disabled friends in academia, document the heck out of everything.

yay another episode of #AcademicAbleism !!

So we had our retake times and dates back, and my retake for Clinical Biomedicine is going to be at 9am on the 16th. This is in spite of the fact that I have an adaption that stipulates that all my exams must be taken in the afternoon.

Its pointless complaining, as I know what they'll say: "No disability adaptions are guaranteed".

#Academia needs change and those within it need to be held accountable for #Accessibility .
