It constantly surprises me that I see competent professionals tooting things relating to their work. The information they give is great, and makes sense, so I assume they are definitely actually competent professionals.

But if they are, then how do they find the time to share anything? Because I don't.

The unfortunate answer I plague myself with is usually "Well maybe I am not a competent professional"

Just had further conversations about the amount of time I have available/amount of time needed to complete work X and Y. In my current situation there's not enough time to go around. There are reasons for being in the circumstance, but I do also have to look at myself and ask if there's ways I have contributed to having too much work and too little time.

I'm making a point of typing this out as a toot because I realise this failure of mine to manage my own time is why I don't toot much.

Happy Ed Balls day to those who celebrate

Friend and ex-colleague product designer, Maher Farsoun, built a nice little tool from an idea we had, to utilise Figma prototypes as portfolios more effectively. This way you can use one URL/one site to have an adaptive Figma prototype portfolio, suitable for varying viewport sizes. Maher talks about it on LinkedIn here.

I made a tool to make Figma prototypes look responsive. I'd been working on my portfolio recently and designed/ prototyped everything in Figma, but when it…

Crash course in GDPR compliance, because it’s been obvious that the Americans have some misconceptions:

Remember, though: IANAL and this is not legal advice

1. The GDPR does allow data collection of arbitrary stuff of the internet, such as for search engine indexing, but it must be for a single, specific purpose so that owners of personal data that’s been indexed can take an informed decision. A system that’s specifically advertised as general-purpose is pretty much automatically disqualified.

Meanwhile, a thousand ideas have to pass me by, because I already have a backlog of things to occupy this time. Maybe I will see them again, next time around.
Sometimes you just have to wait for your mind to align with your need. Compared to yesterday, right now I have clarity of action, and a level of sustained interest in the subject, that is so much stronger. You start to feel you have to ride this wave as much as you can, get as much done, just to make up for when your mind is not so cooperative.
My mind is all over the place. Has been for 6 months or more. I think I'm starting to get it ordered again, but it's making work difficult. I am working now, a few hours of the evening, because I couldn't during the day. Not that it's always that way. Meditation is harder- it's been a while since I was able to calm the noise in my head fully. Distractions seem bigger, temptations stronger.

So Star Trek Picard remains a very good series. A great episode in setting up the last/next one, and moving the major story forward, but it is now groaning and straining under the weight of nostalgia, and it is almost at breaking point. I can only hope they can deliver the final episode on necessary story, and less fan service. As I say, it remains very good.
