#Theoretical #ecologist interested in using #models to gain #insight for #conservation of #aquatic #ecosystems. Also interested in how ecological models can assist in #decisionMaking in #smallData scenarios.

Currently a #postdoc in the Carnegie Institution for Science. Views my own.

My best debugging strategy remains formulating a #StackOverflow post to explain the "massive, totally unsolvable" problem that I am facing. Once I've written the post with a nice reproducible example (or gotten at least halfway through), the solution magically occurs to me! #Rstats #coding 🪄🦄

Haven't posted in a while, but I'm happy to announce my final chapter of my PhD thesis, "How far to build it before they come? Analyzing the use of the Field of Dreams hypothesis to bull kelp restoration" was published!

https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/eap.2850

This has been my biggest research-wise challenge so far, but it's so nice to see it finally published. It's also an example of what I hope my research will look like moving forward.

Letting your coding ideas flow by writing a Github issue to the devs and midway figuring out how to solve your own issue.
@SebastianSchreiber thanks for your reply! I'm trying to use a higher order scheme (Stratonovich implicit method) to prevent any potential stiffness. I think that the logarithm should work, especially because I'm trying to look at densities of populations near extinction. I'll try that next!

I have a #numerical ly #unstable #stochastic #DifferentialEquation that I need to solve. The drift term by itself is numerically #stable

Anybody has #tips on how to solve the #SDE? Maybe choose a simpler diffusion term?

@anarodrigues Thanks for the kind words! It's not contradicting our work but definitely needs some clarification on our end which makes sense. Although I feel that such clarification didn't need just published references to be requested.

It's not reviewer 2 unfortunately! I can only say right now it's not my smoothest review process at all.

Is it too much for #reviewers to ask to cite papers that were published while the manuscript is under review?

Cuz I think it is.

I was a researcher on this project during my PhD, and will be happy to answer any questions!
