I'm disturbed by how frequently this exact conversation comes up these days.

Gamedev Tip:
Put intentional compile errors into your "WIP" commits! That way they don't get merged (easily) and if another person has to pick up where you left off, they will immediately see where the work is happening and don't have to dig through version control as their first task.
