UPDATE: Workers at FOUR of the most important US science agencies have now filed letters of dissent against their leadership.

After initially delaying their letter due to fears of retaliation, NSF workers have gone ahead anyway, and joined their colleagues at NIH, EPA, and NASA in speaking up.

I hoped never to see concentration camps like the ones I grew up in appear again in this country. Reading this breaks my heart.

@georgetakei As a German I was grown with the phrase "never again". But I would have never believed that the US really one day would fall to the Nazis.
The "Free world" lost its biggest member.
I really hope you can turn it around - my fear still is very big.

And it is still too silent - too many think still they are not at target. You all will be. Believe me.

My parents were of the same generation as yours.

They arrived in Canada with the clothes they were wearing after events in Europe.

I inherited their stories.

It breaks my heart, too, to see the truth dissolving and running off like so much water.

A South American ex-pat taxi driver said to me in Toronto in 2016, 'They have no idea what they are voting for...'

It chilled me then and still does whenever I call it to mind.

@georgetakei That sucks. I'm not particularly religious since my younger days, but I have a Bible that has been with me since I was in my single-digit ages.

I would hate to have the only thing I have from that far back in my personal history taken from me. It even has all kinds of little skeptic notes I wrote when discovering questionable or contradictory passages.

You hoped? Was not enough clue that for your whole adult life, Democrats and Republican WERE/ARE the same fascist shit?

As a German, observing our own history happen in real time helps me understand how it happened.
I've always been a great fan of Hannah Arendt and her theory of the banality of evil.
But it's just one part of the puzzle that explains the hundreds of thousands of nazis.
