Retired and a bit dazed watching so many of my fellow Americans trying so hard to dismantle the democracy our forefathers and mothers gave their lives to establish. This nation has never been anything near perfect, but we should be working to expand the rights and freedoms of our citizens (and non-citizens), not eliminate the ones we have already fought to secure.

And I'm dreaming of a science-driven planet, without religion...

This is a better explanation of my position regarding #evolution.

Same here - "thoughts and prayers" will get him nowhere. Modern medicine is your only hope in such a situation...

Data brokers are increasingly coming under government scrutiny.

At the same time, government agencies are increasingly reliant on their services. From @alng: https://www.politico.com/news/2022/12/21/data-brokers-privacy-federal-government-00072600

Data brokers raise privacy concerns — but get millions from the federal government

How an old privacy law and new security demands force Washington to rely on an industry in the crosshairs.

Welcome to the EV universe! Short range cars are great for most uses, and once you've gone EV you'll never want to go back!

We have a Tesla for the longer range trips, but even our plug in Prius Prime works well for around town use. Just 25 miles of electric range easily covers my local trips, and I end up using very little gasoline over the course of a year.

Our fuel costs have gone from ~$2500/year to less than $1000/year by replacing our ICE vehicles (at $3/gal).

@devinpacholik What menus? I shoot mostly with 30+ year old film cameras! 😁

Though I guess I must admit my F6 does have some menus, but not more than it takes 5 minutes to learn!

In the olden analog days, you learned how to deal with apertures, shutter speeds, and their relation to light/exposure. No other features/functions needed!

We'll, that clinches it! I'll sell my EV, and buy a hydrogen powered car.

Of course, it'll be a 5,000 mile round trip from my home to the nearest retail hydrogen fuel station, and the 'almost zero' cost hydrogen fuel will run me 24 cents a mile versus the 3 cents per mile electricity cost me for the EV.

Makes perfect sense!

Obviously it's not the water that is the driver of high expense for hydrogen production - it's the cost to split the molecules in that water to get hydrogen out.

New methods are being researched to do that using renewables, and ultimately may make hydrogen economically viable, particularly for energy storage, aviation, etc.

Until then, BEVs are much more efficient and create far less CO2 over a vehicle's lifetime than ICE vehicles:

"Results show that even for cars registered today, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have by far the lowest life-cycle GHG emissions... Additionally, as the electricity mix continues to decarbonize, the life-cycle emissions gap between BEVs and gasoline vehicles increases substantially when considering medium-size cars projected to be registered in 2030."
