Reaching the “WTF do I write about today?!” stage of #NaBloPoMo

So, what do I write about today?

I’m wondering if y’all can help me build a community of trans people of colour on the tag #TransPOC as i miss the wonderful people i knew on a different animal themed app.
After seeing reports of racism and bad moderation I guess i’m just trying to find my people. Boosts very welcome.

Can someone help me understand the governance of Mastodon? I understand it’s federated and individual owners look after individual servers, but is there also some level of centralised control?

I’m seeing some really concerning reports of Black folks being blocked from large instances like mastodon.online for discussing racism, and I want to get a fuller picture of what accountability looks like here.

Also a big thank you to @mekkaokereke for your insightful commentary on this.

One thing I love about Mastodon is the #Inclusive environment. So, to those who do not post alt text with their pics, I ask you to please learn how. Please include #blind people like me in your posts. If you're not sure how to write alt text, I can teach you how. And to those of you who *are* including alt text, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Design Systems News

A publication full of interesting, relevant, and curated links.

A lot of the conversation I’m seeing about Mastodon as an alternative to the Birdsite focuses on Mastodon’s #a11y, safety and inclusivity.

The inference seems to be that because Mastodon is open source, it should be inherently more inclusive.

When issues are encountered, the answer is often “it’s open source - go fix it!”

But open source doesn’t mean more inclusive, and the Venn diagram of people using OSS and people making it is not a circle.

Inclusion doesn't come for free with open source software by Amy Hupe, content designer.

Why inclusivity is not an inherent feature of open source software.

OK lads sorry for the most basic question but how do I make URLs in my list of items in my bio be actual links? I typed in my website address but it didn’t automatically turn it into a link.

Don’t tell me I’ve got to write code…

Once again, what am I, a fucking wizard?
