Can someone help me understand the governance of Mastodon? I understand it’s federated and individual owners look after individual servers, but is there also some level of centralised control?

I’m seeing some really concerning reports of Black folks being blocked from large instances like mastodon.online for discussing racism, and I want to get a fuller picture of what accountability looks like here.

@iknowdavehouse and, by way of a pep talk, having worked with you as a design system manager, your taking up a strong position caused me to make many course corrections that I wouldn’t have made without you. It didn’t and doesn’t always get the exact outcome you want(ed), but make no mistake, it made and continues to make a positive impact. You’re a good one Dave, don’t let the bastards grind you down.

@iknowdavehouse I don’t think it’s a question of subject matter knowledge, it’s how you apply it. Design system work is so hard because, to do it well, it requires us to orchestrate organisational change and that requires cooperation and flexibility and *willingness to change* from the organisation which, as we know, isn’t always there. You can’t internalise it all, you’ll go mad…
