Prodigal daughter of Belfast, former Londoner (north of the river), erstwhile Scot.

Gen X, baby.

Tooting about life in general, though heavy on the history / genealogy / art / small furry animal content.

Left-leaning (and leaning farther every day). Socially liberal. Usually reasonable.

Likes to share earworms.

Toots may contain whimsy, mild snark and statistics.

My second presentation of the day (and last of the event) 'Sources for House History in Northern Ireland', will be going live at 5pm (BST). It includes a range of helpful sources, websites and archives for researching houses or buildings, either as part of your family history or as a stand-alone project.

My ten-minute talk on 'What the 1901 and 1911 Irish Censuses can tell us about buildings', a deep dive into the lesser known parts of the Census, is now available in the #AllAboutThatPlace Facebook group and on the Society of Genealogists' YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@SocietyofGenealogists

My (ten minute) video presentation on 'Kin Edar - a House Through Time' is now up on the Society of Genealogists' YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/@societyofgenealogists as part of the #AllAboutThatPlace event.

It looks at the history of the house from the time it was built in the 1860s to its demolition for new housing in the 1940s, and its relationship with the city that grew up around it.

(Nothing like blowing your own trumpet in a toot 😉 )

Delighted to announce that I'll be doing 3 short presentations as part of 'All About That Place' later this month - on my #KinEdar #OnePlaceStudy; #HouseHistory sources for Northern Ireland; and what the Irish Census can tell us about buildings. #OnePlace #AllAboutThatPlace #Genealogy #FamilyHistory
Cheers, Jimmy.
I found a pattern for the cat quilt. I've never quilted before, but I'm tempted. https://shop.shinyhappyworld.com/products/cats-quilt-pattern-workshop

If anyone fancies playing #OnePlaceStudies Monopoly this #OnePlaceWednesday, I've just discovered that one of my #KinEdar people won £5 as a runner-up in a Daily Mirror beauty contest in 1919.

23-year-old Chattie (or Charlotte) McIldowie would be better known later as actress Moyna MacGill, and was the mother of #AngelaLansbury.

I don't know what muffineers are, but I want some.
Some #LocalHistory research is easier than others.
