Prodigal daughter of Belfast, former Londoner (north of the river), erstwhile Scot.

Gen X, baby.

Tooting about life in general, though heavy on the history / genealogy / art / small furry animal content.

Left-leaning (and leaning farther every day). Socially liberal. Usually reasonable.

Likes to share earworms.

Toots may contain whimsy, mild snark and statistics.

Good morning fellow Mastos and hello to the weekend. Saturday has arrived, so go out and start the weekend, and enjoy yourselves. Have fun, especially as we are (supposed to be) having a mini heat wave. Take care.

Today's random photo is essentially for @DoubleTreble who loves a "Heelan Coo". This one was found in Findhorn on my recent Scottish visit. It is entirely made from old rusting chains.

Everyone goes out to take pictures of a passionflower in the rain while they're waiting for their coffee (or tea, if so inclined) to brew, right?

Love the choice of decorations on the new Glasgow University Maths and Statistics building. I don't understand much of it, but I like the way it turns the whole building into a blackboard. The decorations were apparently selected from the work boards of various members of the department, and so are snippets of real mathematical workings.

The remains of an ice house in the grounds of Pollok House, a Georgian Mansion on the Southside of Glasgow. This ice house was built into a north-facing slope of a low hill (to give it as much shelter from the sun as possible) near a small pond. Ice would be cut from the pond each winter and stacked in layers in the ice house with layers of straw or sawdust between them. This was then used supply the house with ice throughout the rest of the year.
