Just an anonymous East Bay unicorn in a trash can, trying to focus on listening to, discovering and sharing music, but--if we're being honest--mostly getting sucked into the Housing Discourse. One of those e-cargo-bike dads you see around.

I haven't been too active on here recently, and I'm a few days late to the #bestmusic2023 party, but I wanted to share my favorite music of the last year for anybody who likes such lists and was particularly curious about what a middle-aged dad was listening to. But seriously, there's a fair number of local #EastBay musicians who deserve to have more people listening to them, including #EveryoneIsDirty, #StephenSteinbrink, #BHamilton & #MadelineKenney. I'd love to hear about your own favorites in the replies. #sfbamusic

People arguing that the state shouldn't run empty buses forget that most cars driven to work can seat 5 people and are 80% empty.

Maybe we shouldn't run empty cars either

I could not for the life of me parse the beginning of this tweet and was well on my way to googling what decision it was that the Second Circuit Court of Appeals had issued a split ruling on. #elon
Here is #Oakland #folkpop purveyor #StephenSteinbrink playing for a rapt, respectful crowd tonight at #BottomOfTheHill. #sfbamusic
At some point, I managed to convince myself that "Layla" is French for "The The" and now I can't stop singing "the the" to the tune of Layla. Somebody help.

"The IIHS study found that vehicles that are tall and blunt, such as a large pickup truck, are 43.6% more likely to cause death in a collision with a pedestrian."

If only there was a government agency that could regulate these dumb things. 🀷

Tall trucks, SUVs are 45% deadlier to US pedestrians, study shows

Trucks and sport utility vehicles with hood heights greater than 40 inches are about 45% more likely to cause fatalities in pedestrian crashes than shorter vehicles with sloped hoods, according to new research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

OK, let's settle this once and for all. The best song about a verifiably false urban legend of would-be Soviet heroes who suffer disastrous consequences as a result of scientific overreach is ...

A. "Yulia" by #WolfParade

I can’t stop thinking about how #BenFolds wrote a funny, poignant song about the dumbass timeline we live in, with a reference to how terrible #jan6 was (β€œβ€¦ and mobs you can’t unsee …”) and the top Google result for the lyrics thinks it’s about wishing you hadn’t seen … a grandmom? Doing what exactly? #Yikes.
I’m at the #EastBayBikeParty, where are you? #ebbp #ebbikeparty
