Part of it is surely (for me) my great comfort with expressing myself intentionally and completely, in writing, when I've had sufficient processing/revision/time to do so. As an aside, I've moved from 140 chars to 500 and may yet blog (again). :)

I like that online the mirrors of our selves can have all kinds of curvatures of distortion. We say identity like its a fixed quantity. A student once described for her it was an iris (as in opening) that we change its dimensions in different contexts.

Wanted to call it sofa 2 stage + would be a repository of different images & places & idea was w/ simple VR headset + 3D camera (I got ThetaS) could develop progressive experiences for ppl to talk, play, perform... & would be great in school. Company got interested & I got worried. Didn't have time to learn code. Someone should develop as open ed resource... :)

I was really compelled by this, enough to struggle with the functions given my poor tech skills.
I think it's something to consider here. A slow-moving makerspace of ideas.

It feels as though mastodon comes with a longer memory for a thread once you find it; but harder to find it.

But I also find that sometimes you get onto a thread and think you're seeing all the replies but actually there are whole other branches you're missing that you might stumble upon sometimes by accident. wouldn't it be cool if there were a way to image those somehow, graphically, & follow them out?

If I wrote something, and someone forked it, but then someone else forked it, the branching paths could never find each other again. And after a while I found myself grieving these lost connections.
Is there a way to map the garden of branching paths?

@Patlockley Now you're talking. I think the main need is for some way to navigate the mesh, so you can follow a conversation, but also tie different strands back together if necessary.

@Patlockley For me, the conversation is the key; thus the interesting thing is following the replies and threads of thought. Keep in mind I know nothing (to my shame) about the code that makes these things work and what is preferable on a technical level.

@Patlockley Ok, I think I get it. For me, it's about the replies. No matter how many voices, as long as people keep replying to the last comment, there's a thread. My experience is many online discussions are only one thread, but in cases like this one we're all in here, there are many and we need a way to navigate them all in order to follow the narrative, and perhaps tie some together.

Otherwise it will be near impossible to deduce content/topics and branches as we go. At the moment, branches seem to be 'labelled' by the @ list, instead of by topic. What if we did both? That way either an algorithm or active person could begin to sort? #WonderingOutLoud

This is a very intending idea @Patlockley. It's not now but I think with some (serious) testing and configuration (and hi-strength duct tape) this or something like it could be spun up on demand just like a WordPress instance can be. Is that want you are thinking?

I'm going to be honest that I did not read this fairly long thread due to white on black text (ouch). But read a lot. And fact that it is so long is testament to earlier part of convo, this is strange space because it is easy/hard to find conversation. It's there, but you have to look, not just browse. Kinda like blog comments aggregated in one space.

I have my Kindle and Twitter set to white on black text because that is more comfortable to read in the dark which is what I do most often...it surprises me that others find it uncomfortable but I realize it makes Mastodon more familiar to me than other ppl feel. Is there research on this))
