IBM ThinkBoy

@NanoRaptor ThinkBoy, sadly, only has one nipple.

(Yes, I refer to IBM’s TrackPoint as a nipple and always have. Those who don't see it are in denial.)

@jackwellborn @NanoRaptor

I mean, we (as in nerd community) have talked 'bout this before:

https://xkcd.com/243/

@jackwellborn @NanoRaptor Yeah that's not what some of us call it ...
@NanoRaptor That's not the ThinkBoy, it's the ThinkBoy Color! smh
@NanoRaptor The Nub instead of a dpad is just a nice touch
@BalooUriza @NanoRaptor "nub"? I've heard it called "the knob" "the ding", "the nipple" and "the clit". Adding "nub" to the list.
@mbpaz @BalooUriza @NanoRaptor See also G-spot, since it's nestled right in the G there.

@plaidtron3000 You
know it's male if it's located adjacent to the P key.

@mbpaz @NanoRaptor

@mbpaz @BalooUriza @NanoRaptor
i’m the boring buzzkill because i've always just called it “the thimble”
@i0null @mbpaz @BalooUriza @NanoRaptor "Eraser mouse" was what I called it.

@mbpaz I've mostly heard "TrackPoint" or "ClitMouse" but I was trying to avoid Branded Names™ and trying not to be lewd.

@NanoRaptor

@NanoRaptor Corporate IT splurged on the color LCD
@NanoRaptor all the games for it are implemented in LotusScript
@NanoRaptor  I want one, it looks perfect!

@NanoRaptor

I wonder if Lenovo would have a modern version of this now? 🥴

@NanoRaptor This is ridiculously flawless. Shame on you!

I want one?

@NanoRaptor Is that the one with the weird IR link multiplayer where you had to hold the two devices at a 2 cm distance while playing?

@NanoRaptor

I'm sure we could create an alternate timeline for the history of computing with your amazing creations.

"For All Mankind" but an alternate history where things are somewhat different than today 🙂

@NanoRaptor

The VirtualThink was too ahead of its time with 3d spreadsheets, but gave a serious headache if you used them for more than half an hour…

(if I wasn't putting in hours for $DAYJOB, I'd snag an image of a VirtualBoy, change it from red to black, and add the IBM logo in its colors and fudge it to read "VirtualThink" 😆)

@NanoRaptor

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time, but the decision to go with OS/2 as the default operating system for the ThinkBoy turned out to be a mistake as almost no third party developers made any games for it; Gremlin Graphic's Zool/2 a noteable exception. The bundled database server was really good for the time, though.

@NanoRaptor I recall Spock using this in Babylon 5.

@NanoRaptor

The screen looks like embroidery.

@NanoRaptor I want this thing so bad 🥸
@NanoRaptor The first thing we did when we got home was jailbreak it to bypass the lockout requiring wearing a suit and tie.
@NanoRaptor wow, I love this platform! How rugged and battle tested!
@NanoRaptor Would 100% buy a load of these for my bemused family at Christmas.

@NanoRaptor [goes to redbooks.ibm.com to find the ThinkBoy HMM]

Could you show us the label so we can read the P/N and maybe FRUs?

@NanoRaptor WHERE'S THE NIPPLE!?
Edit: oh nevermind it's the red thing lol
@NanoRaptor the ’cowl’ at the top really sells it. Reminds me of the TI scientific calendars that had cases that were slide off and stored backwards on the calculator.
@NanoRaptor But will it come with a ThinkLight?
@NanoRaptor the choice of the nub over a d-pad hahahaahahhaha

@NanoRaptor

What the hell is this haha

Acquisition of the IBM PC business by Lenovo - Wikipedia

@NanoRaptor the numb for the d pad is chef's kiss
@NanoRaptor
hold on I've seen this one before
@NanoRaptor variant models of course had a ThinkLight above the display

@NanoRaptor PCMCIA slot instead of cartridge slot.

Also, I'd be playing the Jetpack: Christmas Special

@NanoRaptor Tougher than a Nokia... although IBM charged way, WAY to much for the OS/2 cartridge for it.
Weird to see that but it looks cool.
BM (Lenovo) sold its decent laptop in what felt like a long time until it got bought out. I had one that lasted ten years and my dad bought one and liked it when we had a show at the Javits Center many many moons ago.
@NanoRaptor does it boot with libreboot!? 😆
@NanoRaptor the battery light is a nice touch
@NanoRaptor there's one "bit" here and its a damn good bit
