@siracusa @stephenrobles I know this is going to blow your mind, but it is possible to find exquisite versions of New York staples
…not in New York.
@siracusa @caseyliss @stephenrobles far be it from me, an internet stranger, to defend Casey on something related to food, but we were in Paris last year and a lot of their baguettes are made from frozen now.
The world is a changing place. I’d bet money that the best NY pizza isn’t made in NY anymore.

This thread has me imagining a video version of the ATP podcast in the form of a cooking show.
Totally worth all the effort to spruce up the recording room, fine tune lighting and audio, wardrobe and makeup, and edit the results right?
@caseyliss @siracusa @stephenrobles this SoCal place makes vv good garlic knots. They claim to be NY style. I find them perfectly tasty.
@dmoren @caseyliss @siracusa My bona fides:
1. Born in brooklyn
2. Moved upstate near poughkeepsie at 5, frequently visited city with family
3. In college, interned in times square for 2 summers so was in the city 6 days a week.
4. Moved to florida after college at 22
5. Have returned many times since to visit family and brought my kids two years ago
6. I have searched far and wide in FL for good pizza. Several get *close* to NY quality. None match it perfectly, but are very good... 1/2

@caseyliss @siracusa @stephenrobles
I haven’t had a decent hot pretzel or Bagel in 45 years.
And it wasn’t that they were from ny or not. It is more that everyone wanted to get in on the act, make it their own, and obliterate the narrower standard.
Pizza may never recover. Even Italian American food isn’t ’Italian’ any more. It barely ever was.
