Proto Himbo European

Well, this is a bit interesting. The question (Y axis) is "How hard is it for men to conform to societal expectations today?"

No formal hypothesis test confirmation yet but it looks like:

  • Most people believe men have slightly less than "somewhat hard" time (value = 3)
  • Men who identify (at least in this survey) with no party believe, on average, that men have a significantly more difficult time conforming to "societal expectations today"
  • Women identifying as Democrat believe that men have less difficulty than other groups do

    • Note: Democratic men do not agree with Democratic women.

    This is quite interesting.

    @TeflonTrout My 15 year old daughter saw the graph and as I was explaining she said, "I see two things happening." Her take on the two points on the right was that men who say they don't affiliate with any political party in the US are often far-right but don't like the pushback they get for admitting this; she thinks women who don't identify with a party are more anarchist.

    The second dynamic (which might be nothing; it's pretty slight) is Democrat women believing men have it easier than Democrat men do (and actually compared to all other groups).

    @TeflonTrout further exploration shows she is probably right about the men but not the women. Still trying to figure unaffiliated women out in this sample. Not overly sympathetic toward men but also a bit xenophobic and racist.

    Not being a woman, I have to defer- I have no idea. But as to the men, I still agree with the assessment. We have been babied, coddled, and kissed up to so much it's embarrassing

    @Gorfram @TeflonTrout I meant the women, specifically those claiming no party identification. I haven't posted it yet, but I did a few more analyses and that subgroup has some unexpected characteristics.

    I would have expected the racism & xenophobia to be bunched up with the Republicans, but I guess preconceptions exist to be confounded.

    I would be very interested in knowing what the unaffiliated women’s unexpected characteristics are.

    @strolkie Yeah, that's why you might note I'm hedging a good deal. This is initial exploration. I need to do a proper model with actual group comparisons.
