Think age and ID verification is limited to social media? Think again. Get ready for new age and identity checks if you use LLMs.

Age and ID verification coming to Claude AI soon. Anthropic’s updated privacy policy (effective July 8, 2026) introduces age and identity verification provisions for Claude Free, Pro, and Max users. The process can involve a government ID and a live selfie, handled through Anthropic’s partner Persona Identities. https://privacy.claude.com/en/articles/10301952-updates-to-our-privacy-policy 🤡

This is yet another reason why you need a fully open source LLM for your coding or cybersecurity work if you need one forced by your work. The one that you run on your own system or GPU cluster. Not only do they now have all your data, but they are also building systems to identify you easily. This is incredibly dangerous for minorities, who are often targeted for political reasons or even for anyone who speaks out against bad stuff online. It is a very slippery slope stuff. be careful now.
@nixCraft 200% right! We need to take Ai fully locally.
@nixCraft I would just quit instead 🤷‍♀️

@nixCraft Hear hear.

I might not get as much done with my local AI setup as people gung-ho on cloud AI - but my setup will outlast theirs.

@nixCraft Even the local ones are trained on stolen data, and ignore the copyrights and licenses in the training data.
@nixCraft and if you think that you aren't a minority or vulnerable, you are.
@nixCraft claude users about to drop to 0
@ElliesSurviving @nixCraft Especially the blind people who have to use it and similar for accessibility reasons. Even if we wanted to verify ourselves that live selfie thing assumes you can see and probably also have a driver's license.
@nixCraft it's this really dangerous

@nixCraft Rmeember:

- #AgeVerification is just "#KYC" under #FalsePretenses

and

- #KYC (aka. coerced #SelfDoxxing) IS the Illicit Activity!

NEVER comply with EITHER!

@nixCraft the question is, while people might do the ID thing for their Insta or tiktok, will they really do it for the AI shit.... I can't imagine everyone's ready for that or they at least will think twice if their chatbot is worth it. Social Media will definitely rank higher for a lot of people who've built their business or their social life around it.
@DrJLecter @nixCraft many use these system for work, as companions or even therapists, so yes: they will.
@wtrmt it's alarming in how short of a time this happened then. But I'm squarely in the "Get the fuck off with your genAI grift" corner, so it's truly beyond me how anyone can rely on these probability machines for anything @nixCraft

@DrJLecter
> I can't imagine everyone's ready

Not everyone. Just some 95%. The rest will wait a bit for compulsory sign-up.

@nixCraft

@ohir we're all doomed 🤪 @nixCraft

@DrJLecter
> doomed

I don't think it's that bad. Technazis are in such a hurry to achieve immortality that they're throwing us frogs into a burning pan...

@nixCraft

@DrJLecter @nixCraft experience from a country where you need to verify your id for pretty much everything online: sadly yes people will do it, and they'll bully the ones that don't want to "oh who do you think you are, that you need anything to be private?" (Literal sentence I've heard before)
@nixCraft Where 'Persona Identities' is actually Palantir.
@nixCraft and nothing of value was lost
@nixCraft Getting ready to enforce the "US citizens only" rule for the next model as Trump now requires.
@etchedpixels @nixCraft "This AI is for Americans only. As our freedom loving country issues no universal IDs, you can upload a photo of your passport, driving license, NRA membership card, or Cybertruck proof of purchase. For a limited time only, receipts of donations from $3.000 to selected PACs are also accepted. This low threshold is only available to early adopters - use it while it lasts!"
@mbpaz I'm sorry Mr Musk but it says here you were born in South Africa so I can't let you use the new version of grok 8)
@etchedpixels I'm sorry Mr Thiel but it says here you were born in Germany so I can't let you use Palantir.
@nixCraft the moment I get asked for a selfie is the moment I stop using your product.

@nixCraft @briankrebs When I set up Adobe accounts for my company Adobe always asks for the month and year of birth. Everyone in my company, in Adobe's eyes, are 26 years old.

Since it is the honor system why dont they simply ask if the person is over 18 years old, and why do they even need to know that. I'll be darned if I hand over true age information to Adobe.

@nixCraft Joke's on them - I only run local models.
@nixCraft you basicly hand out your ID Data (passport or similar) to an LLM, that has been known to abuse data. Or people can manipulate it to abuse data.
Why don't you just send your passport to Anthropic to sell to the highest bidder?
@nixCraft This is all a secret cabal, the real intent is to limit AI usage, reduce energy consumption, thus helping to save the planet <irony off>
@nixCraft Zu meinem (bezahlten) Claude-Testaccount hatte ich auf einmal keinen Zugang mehr, da ich mich weigerte, meine Handynummer anzugeben.
@nixCraft Persona by Sam Altman aka World Coin

@nixCraft

Shutting them down would do nicely.

@nixCraft It's of course _illegal_ for an EU resident to give a full ID to anyone who is not required by law to take it (medical facility, bank, specific government agencies, etc-but-not-many)... this will basically shut-down-get-sued Claude for non-enterprise EU customers...
@nixCraft Persona Identies is Palantir
@nixCraft They just nuked most of their business.
