I was raised antitheist atheist and this is about the one area in which I agree with the christofascists. I do think america is an xtian nation. I mean--they can frame any minor limit on their ability to persecute anyone they want as persecution of themselves. How much privilege does that take? How solid and universal is their control of the culture and the narrative that that one flies? America is and always was a christian nation. I just think that's shit, and finally looks to be changing.
@katrinakatrinka @LeslieBurns I more commonly hear that the LDS doctrine that god has ancestors and siblings makes the LDS polytheistic and therefore not Christian. Never mind that in LDS theology, āgodā is more like āfatherā, and we would only have the one, even if other similar beings exist.
This from the same people who assert Catholics arenāt Christians because people pray to saints for intercession. They just figure the LDS arenāt a big enough bloc to be worth appeasing anymore, while the Catholics still are.

This is the thing about Mitt Romney. (Whom I and my fellow Massholes hated WAY before his various attempts at the presidency.) He tried to go all culture-war and christofascist to get the Republican nomination, completely ignorant of the fact that the evangelicals he thought he was appealing to see his religion as a weird cult. (Correctly, to be sure. But still.)
