Remember the vacuum tube train? The car tunnels? The brain implant chip? The humanoid robots? Making government “efficient”? An AGI based on… tweets (wtf)?

But sure, colonizing Mars is totally real.

@thomasfuchs Full Self-driving any day now
@pikesley next Tuesday, at the latest!!
@thomasfuchs don't underestimate their ability to turn Earth into Mars.
@thomasfuchs "Narcissistic Shared Fantasies", all of them. People who are gullible have a share of the blame here, in that they believed in these fantasies on an emotional basis without doing any due diligence into facts.
@d1 My main gripe is they keep believing in the provenly obvious lies of one guy who’s being doing this for 20 years
@thomasfuchs the one glimmer of hope I see is that the younger generations have a better awareness of what narcissism is. There are tons of Youtube psychologists talking about it in great length and accuracy, which is where I see a real sea change being possible. Understanding the problem down to its very roots. Drs. Richard Grannon, Sam Vaknin, Ramani, Les Carter, Todd Grande, etc. All gold to see through the highly complex mind games which narcissists - like Musk - play.
#psychology
@thomasfuchs We don't have a need for all that without a stable habitat to foster such development. Now all we gotta do is destroy the one we have and put all effort into failure colonizing another.
@thomasfuchs
And he predicted we'd already be on Mars by now. Like it's not only crackpot crazy ideas, he always expects success within a decade.
@erraggy @thomasfuchs he's got until November to fix his Starship and send it off to Mars in the correct launch window. Miss the window, no amount of money on Earth can change it.
But nobody will hold him to account for his wild promises, just shovel money at him
@Lazarou @erraggy he said we’d be there in 2022, so that launch window better include a time travel wormhole

@thomasfuchs @erraggy ah, that was the old wild promise, the new one he made at the start of this year, saying Starship would be on it's way to Mars by the end of the same year.

😬

@Lazarou @thomasfuchs

it’s „on it’s way to Mars“ by just doing a 1foot jump in roughly the right direction before exploding right?

@erraggy

@lazyb0y
@Lazarou @thomasfuchs

Billionaires: anything I desire is possible with enough money.

Also billionaires: so, give me YOUR money so I may profit from it.

@Lazarou @erraggy tbf "wild" and "promise" wrt to Musk are redundant
@flyingpenguin @thomasfuchs Ah he only said for realz, not frfr, so it was clearly a joke
@sjjh @thomasfuchs cross country trip and not a single touch of the steering wheel or the charging cable by 2017!
Two Years On, A Father Is Still Fighting Tesla Over Autopilot And His Son's Fatal Crash - Jalopnik

In early 2016, 48-year-old Gao Jubin had high hopes for the future, with plans to ease up on running a logistics company and eventually turn over control of the business to his son, Gao Yaning. But his plans were abruptly altered when Yaning died at the wheel of a Tesla Model S that crashed on a highway in China while the car—Jubin believes—was traveling in Autopilot, the name for Tesla’s suite of driving aids. Now, Jubin says, “Living is worse than death.”

Jalopnik
@thomasfuchs I've kept receipts since 2013, given hundreds of talks and briefings even to legal teams winning in court, and i can't tell if it has made a dent in the dangerous fraud https://www.flyingpenguin.com/tesla-staff-admit-fake-self-driving-sold-with-fake-numbers/
@thomasfuchs How about solar roof tiles? Or the Robovan?

@alpacamale @thomasfuchs
What is robovan?
I only remember the electric truck.
And the cybertruck.

He basically only did 2 things which work and are not a scam. Falcon9 & grid storage.

@gunstick @thomasfuchs This monstrosity that was announced along with the Cybercab at the end of 2024.
@thomasfuchs He will have to deliver with SpaceX for the upcoming Artemis mission. SpaceX will provide in-orbit fuel storage and refueling capabilities. He can't weasel out of that, the entire Artemis mission hinges on it. But frankly, I don't see it happening, considering Starship's error-prone performance.
@alpacamale @thomasfuchs Spoiler: he probably can given he’s some sort of poster boy for the dying days of this version of capitalism and when he goes pop he’ll take entire markets with him. He’s the modern day Nero, but tweeting rather than fiddling.
@spanghero @thomasfuchs I think the most likely scenario is scrapping the moon mission because the moon is boring and Mars has always been the final goal. That has the potential to easily keep the grift going for another ten years.

@alpacamale @thomasfuchs
Now that blue origin has to rebuild their launch pad, the whole Artemis mission hinges on that one. It adds up to 1 year of rebuilding. And Space𝕏 can happily delay their crap without being fingerpointed.

Note how I used the twitter swastika there...

@thomasfuchs

but…

if they continue making life here worse it won’t take much longer until they easily find 1 million volunteers to try life on mars just to get away from earth

@thomasfuchs Let him go there and be done with it.
@thomasfuchs I got so excited because I thought you were talking about this vacuum tube train! https://improbable.com/2011/01/06/guardian-column-234/
London to Edinburgh in 5 minutes

The journey between London and Edinburgh would be much quicker had the London and Edinburgh Vacuum Tunnel Company been allowed and able to build a breathtaking new piece of technology, back when la…

Improbable Research
@thomasfuchs Why do people keep giving this grifter so much air time?! When he was in California, he derailed a lot of public projects that would have benefited the people with his lies… it is absolutely frustrating to see him and his ilk destroy the planet without any recourse and/or reprieve for the people from them.
@macronaut he has a reality distortion field like Jobs had but he uses it only for evil
@thomasfuchs We're still rooting for certain people to go to Mars, though... one way.
@thomasfuchs anything you want can be real, if you drop enough LSD
@thomasfuchs Mars is off the list for now. Anyone trying to make the trip to Mars would be on dialysis. Check out the article link for a better description.
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/2024/jun/would-astronauts-kidneys-survive-roundtrip-mars
Would astronauts’ kidneys survive a roundtrip to Mars?

The structure and function of the kidneys is altered by space flight, with galactic radiation causing permanent damage that would jeopardise any mission to Mars, according to a new study led by researchers from UCL.

UCL News
@AoaI There’s like 50 different things that will absolutely kill you with the whole “living on Mars” thing (or even getting there), most of those have been known even before Musk started with his grandiose plans in the early 2000s. 😂
@thomasfuchs its like hes just jangling his keys and everyone is entertained
@thomasfuchs
We should send all the billionaires to Mars and they can survive on AI
@thomasfuchs Shhhh, don’t disabuse him of this one. Instead, encourage him to think it is such a sure thing that he will push others out of the way to be on the first Mars-bound ship.
@thomasfuchs burn, capital, burn ...!
@thomasfuchs Every Model S will be a taxi while you don't need it and earn income for you, starting in late 2020...
@dirkhh totally forgot about that one, lolol
@thomasfuchs
I wish I could. Back then I was on Twitter and got into a heated exchange with an Elmo-fanboy who got very upset that I kept reminding people about this announcement...
@thomasfuchs I would happily see my tax dollars subsidizing the launch of all billionaires to mars (or at least into space, don't much care after that as long as they don't come home)
@thomasfuchs I remember him begging to go to Epstein's island

@thomasfuchs What's become of the brain chip recipients?

DDG-ing it, I see no news from the past year or so.

@thomasfuchs @lisamelton And every single one of Elon Musk's projects is immensely subsidized by the state he is operating in, the federal government, or both.

Elon Musk is a socialist, but without the social benefit.

@thomasfuchs
Remember electric vehicles? Remember reusable rocket boosters? Remember fast internet connections via low earth orbit satellites? Not all of the things he talked about are only hot air. Just saying ...
@dummzeuch @thomasfuchs Username checks out.
@scheme Makes for a good distraction, to avoid thinking about the actual content, doesn't it?
@thomasfuchs
Can’t forget the rusty wankpanzers.
@thomasfuchs Maybe he was high and said, "something...something... colonize my arse"
@thomasfuchs He might be able to get a few people to Mars, maybe without killing anyone, maybe not. But keeping people alive on another planet for a long time is a huge challenge. (Food, shelter, oxygen, reduced gravity among other challenges)
Why?
Because I seriously doubt he’d be able to bring anyone back home to Earth successfully.
Or maybe it’s not even in his plans.
It’s a one way ticket.
Got a hotel reservation when you get there?

@bouriquet
And the massive societal restrictions it would require, especially early on. Absolutely no weapons, rationed food, rationed water, rationed *air*...
And no dissent permitted. Because it's a huge safety problem.

@thomasfuchs

@SoftwareTheron @thomasfuchs Not much different than an Antarctic expedition really. Except they get to go home and a rescue extraction is possible and can occur in short order.
The psychological challenges for Mars are huge and might dictate unique selection evaluation.

@bouriquet
There's another thing I forgot:
There is absolutely zero possibility of rescue or of replacing broken equipment. Because the mission *flight* time is 18 months or so.
That massively increases the mass requirement and the skills requirement.

@thomasfuchs

Everything is possible with a massive ketamine addiction. 🔥

@thomasfuchs
There is this IPO which is now forced onto everyone worldwide.
It is impossible to not buy it. Unless you have no money at all (i.e. no pension fund either).
@gunstick @thomasfuchs Nah, you are not yet forced to buy it. When (not if...) they put it into the S&P 500 or whatever index ignoring all the rules about how you are allowed to do this, then you are forced to buy it (any index linked product you might directly or indirectly- you mentioned retirement funds -invest in). Then the stock price will rise, as everybody has to try and buy it, early investors will sell and walk away with lots of cash.
So we still have a month to think about what to do.
