For those who struggle with #Paywalls on #news/scientific #articles:

Two websites which are indispensable:

https://periscope.corsfix.com/ - Periscope acts as a proxy which gets past news paywalls

https://sci-hub.su/ - Sci-hub. also found at .st, .ru, .red, and .box; acts as a frontend to access scientific articles

And then this browser extension, Bypass Paywalls Clean, which works quite well (updates a lot, though, so stay up to date):

https://gitflic.ru/project/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-chrome-clean (Chromium browsers)

https://gitflic.ru/project/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean (Firefox browsers)

ONLY trust these git repos to source the extension. Magnolia1234 is the original developer. The extensions were removed due to DMCA from the browser extension stores, and now there are many malicious copies. This one is safe, I use it myself, and have done so since before it was removed (so I know who is the real dev).

In addition, for other #media, like #books, #manga, or #movies, others:

https://fmhy.net/ - Free Media Hell Yeah! is an aggregator of sites to access #free media. All sites are safe so long as you have an adblocker.

https://annas-archive.gl/ - Anna's Archive. An aggregate site for books. Pulls from many sources (incl. Lib-gen and zlib)

https://cineby.sc/ - Cineby. Watch nearly anything free, no ads

I'll give #music next.

Periscope - Fetch and Read Web Content Instantly

Periscope is a web content reader that removes popups, ads, and annoyances, providing a clean and distraction-free reading experience.

For #music, #pirate #streaming platforms dont really exist.

https://fmhy.net/audio has alternative clients for #Spotify / Deezer / #YouTube which can bypass the ads / #Paywalls. Morphe is a good app for now for #android to patch the original apps to be free. on iOS, your choices are limited. Spotify is much harder to patch than YouTube Music and risks banning of your acc, so I would go YTM route.

In lieu of that, its frankly easier to just download the music you listen to and keep it physically on your device. For that, Soulseek is truly the best thing. Though, I caution you to avoid the chatrooms, theyre often quite abusive (no moderation). Beyond that, the platform is indispensible for music #piracy.

It doesn't require a VPN, either, as the platform seems pretty much unknown to ISPs (and its kind of hard to easily track to the same extent, and there isnt really an easy way to honeypot on SLSK like with torrents).

For soulseek, you have the official client (SoulseekQT), Nicotine+, and Seeker for android. I recommend Nicotine+ unless you have issues, then fallback to SoulseekQT.

https://nicotine-plus.org/
https://www.slsknet.org/news/node/1 (official)

https://morphe.software/ (Morphe)
https://revanced.app/ (Revanced, like morphe)
You may see "xManager", but its dead.

Music / Podcasts / Radio

Stream Audio, Download Audio, Torrent Audio

Between these few sites, plus a private tracker, I have been able to access literally all media I need for free. All. And I truly mean that. Mostly, I use the sites from FMHY and Soulseek, and fall to the private tracker if I cant find it there. Usually, I find them before falling back.

I havent paid for a streaming platform in years. You dont need to either.

Buy physical media, and in lieu of that, pirate. Dont give into the rent-based economic system we find ourselves in when you dont need to do so.

@zambezi Teaching people internet piracy is so important for digital literacy. I have no idea how the once ubiquitous art got lost so damn fast.

@AnarchoWalrus @zambezi

I've recently had great success using a combination of tools streaming movies and shows (including 4K, DolbyVision, IMAX DTS, etc) on my Sony Google TV.

Took me a little work to figure it all out and land on what's so far been a solid combination, for a total of $3 U.S. per month:

#Stremio (no cost) #Torrentio (no cost) #TorBox $3/monthly

It works without TorBox, but poorly for most content.

🏴‍☠️

@AnarchoWalrus @zambezi This is probably because of how much of "digital literacy" is just using a file manager to organize local files. Local files which the rent-seeking platforms don't want you to have except as behind-the-scenes cache and such, and which you need to be able to manage to engage in 🏴‍☠️.

@dalias @AnarchoWalrus This is tantamount alongside how corporations have increasingly made their platforms easier to use than local file management or seeking content in the typical pirate way—intentionally.

Most people just want to come home and select a show, and thats why I put Cineby at the end of my post because I feel platforms like that are a good, frictionless start into piracy. Its just [insert streaming platform], but for free, without ads. Its literally built for easy adoption.

Convenience and the human drive for it are also part of the problem. If we want piracy to start taking off again, we need to make it easier to at least start out with. Then once they realize they can get what they want for free, with little issue, they may become more open to doing genuine "work" to maintain that access, even if it means downloading stuff and buying a new HDD.

Ive directly seen this work out this way for many people in my own life. I start them on cineby, they lapse their streaming service, cineby goes down for a minute, or doesnt have a show, and then they ask me where they can download, and boom, they're now doing file management and learning the skills prerequisite to deeper piracy.

@AnarchoWalrus @zambezi

through brainwashing, manipulation & gaslighting. the 3 main ingredients of endemic malignant narcissistic behaviour by the billionaire class who have been feeding the wolf for millenia bc they themselves have been emotionally neglected for generations over millenia too.

this is the lesson we all have to learn individually, to love our selves in order to be able to healthily give love to others.

i know.. a tough call i don't make many friends with, let alone allies, but this is my truth & my knowledge which i learned through 50+ yrs of toxic relationships & being deprived of emotional care & education by everyone around me.

but don't mistake pacifism with love, cause for me it includes tough love i.e. defending my boundaries by any means necessary, & i can be ruthless when necessary.

i swore an oath to my self to never again, no exception, accept anyone's authority over my own.

that was at the start of 2025.
