Cancelling my monthly Wikipedia donation I guess.
I actually hate this but that’s the only tool I have in hand.
I don't see where union-busting fits in here so I guess that's the end of that. https://wikimediafoundation.org/who-we-are/values
@mhoye Oh wow!
@netopwibby I've been donating since I got to a point in life that I could afford to. I've even kept it up while I was unemployed. I hate this, but I don't have any other meaningful way to send even this tiny, tiny message.

@mhoye Yeah man, it’s tough. I've donated a few times over the years. It seems virtually impossible for anything that started with great intentions to stay that way. Hella demoralizing.

Great thing is that eventually something better comes along? But like, how long will the good vibes last there? The cycle continues.

@netopwibby @mhoye How to break that cycle? Is it always money from the too rich&powerful sabotaging the good thing from some angle?

@netopwibby @mhoye Imo, everything great has a maximum life span of one human lifetime before it has to change, for better or worse. Under capitalism, that seems to always be worse.

This is just based on how long the people who made a Great Thing can steer it and keep it to their original vision. Once they step down, it's inevitable that the Great Thing will change somewhat, if it hasn't come to that before that

@mhoye @netopwibby Same. It's discouraging, really.
@mhoye sent the same email cancelling my monthly donation yesterday. Truly disappointing.
@mhoye Emailed them warning that they've got three months to resolve this before my annual donation is due.
@mhoye I didn't have to - I received this e-mail yesterday. No explanation, just this mail from PayPal...
@mhoye thanks for posting this, reminded me that i should do the same and did.
@mhoye One wonders where the Foundation's Board stands in all this, since they're the ones with the power to fire the CEO, but also presumably the ones that approved hiring them in the first place.
@mhoye unfortunately already canceled mine back when they announced some kind of AI partnership bullshit in January
@aburka We announced getting paid a little bit for data that the clankers and FAANG mega corps have been taking for free for decades. I really wish the comms on that had not been so easily twisted by folks looking to start shit online.
@bd808 well, clearly I wasn't wrong about the kind of people making the decisions anyway
@mhoye Getting all of us fired for lack of funding probably won’t help a lot, but I get that this is about the only lever folks have. :/
@bd808 If the situation changes I'll be back, but it's all I have. I'm sorry.
@bd808 @mhoye That would be an excuse to fire you. "The Wikimedia Endowment is a permanent fund that generates income to support the Wikimedia Projects in perpetuity" how much do they really need individual donations?
@mhoye @nicolas17 The endowment is designed to provide enough money via dividends to pay for essential services and infrastructure in times of crisis. The entire endowment was $169M at the end of the 2025 fiscal year. The Wikimedia Foundation booked $191M in expenses in the 2025 fiscal year. Numbers from https://wikimediaendowment.org/annualreports/2024-2025-annual-report/ and https://wikimediafoundation.org/annualreports/2024-2025-annual-report/

@mhoye Same - but I haven't received a confirmation...
Maybe they are overwhelmed by the number of cancellations? Here's hoping.
