One year a downy wood pecker discovered the resonance and sound characteristics of a metal roof gutter.
I have never looked forward to fall migration more.
No clue! I never saw it, just heard it. I know a couple of neighbours identified it as a downy, and were discussing the legality of shooting it within the city limits. It went quiet in August. No one claimed a kill, and I hope it just headed elsewhere to avoid the heat.
3:30 am around here. The other day there was a thunderstorm at 2:30 am, then the robins started tuning up shortly after.
@CaraBruar π It's the time of year!
The other day I was walking in a forest when I saw a bird on the ground flapping its wings. I immediately went into rescue mode, thinking first I need to find a blanket to capture the injured bird safely and then drive to the nearest bird rescue centre. Then I realized that there were actually two birds in the middle of some passionate encounter. π
