Talking about being happy, here's a California sea lion taking a nap after overindulging on herring.

En parlant de bonheur, voici un lion de mer de la Californie en train de faire la sieste après avoir mangé trop de harengs.

I just want to let Vancouver Islanders know that guests on my tours find you super friendly and apparently we smile a lot. They seem surprised how happy, relaxed and friendly people are here. Anyway I thought you should know. Cheers! 😊

I bought this old kitchen table and am planning to refinish the surface of it, keeping its old feel but I want to remove the water/heat marks from it. Any suggestions from our #DIY folks appreciated. Thanks!

It's still winter up in the mountains on northern Vancouver Island. A 4 days of heavy snowfall lead to a spectacular blue sky sunny weekend for backcountry skiing. In the center of the photo, 4 people can be seen traversing onto a cliff, high up on a snow-covered mountainside. The photo was taken from Mount Cain, looking east toward Kunnum Peak.

The activity of herring around Vancouver Island in British Columbia brightened coastal waters enough to be detectable from space.

Vancouver Island marmots will soon come out of hibernation. Some colonies are located on ski hills so they close the ski resort for a few weeks in April.
This marmot is endemic to Vancouver Island. It's an endangered species that is making a remarquable recovery thanks to marmots.org

...and now back to nature photos...

Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna) in red-flowering currant (Ribes sanguineum). This plant is one of the earliest blooming flowers in the Pacific Northwest, which makes it an important food source for the Anna's hummingbirds that over-winter here and the Rufous hummingbirds that arrive early.

Photo captured on a casual stroll through Discovery Park in Seattle.
