Today I was reading a title story about an owl. About an Ukrainian owl. And my first thought was: Oh my, another one of these “cute animal stuff” reports. But it was much more, it was a story about humans who choose being humane. https://steady.page/en/naturematchcuts/posts/de2f7ea3-34c2-4f83-9889-f624f5a04d60

Match Cuts 4: Signs Of Hope

Today I was reading a title story about an owl. About an Ukrainian owl. And my first thought was: Oh my, another one of these “cute animal stuff” reports. But it was…

@NatureMC I’m not going to read the story because I’m sure it will make me cry. But, yes, can there be anything more important than trying to repair the harm to the living world that our species has done?

@ClimateJenny This is why I tried to distil the essence I got from the story, because I know that many people can no longer cope with reading such articles (including me). (It isn’t quite as difficult to read as others, because it focuses mainly on the scientific work of dedicated researchers.)
I like this story because that's journalism for me: Exploring a topic that doesn't usually come up, using a simple example.

And on a personal level, I collect information on the ecological footprint of

@ClimateJenny wars/nuclear disasters, because so many remain silent on the subject. If we were to talk about it, we would have to outlaw all wars. And we can't imagine how much we need these scientists working in dangerous conditions.

My blog post is readable as a meta-watch of the journalism, I tried to concentrate on hope.

@ClimateJenny @NatureMC Hi so you want to read the story which is gonna make you cry 😢

Yeah tbh I'm also interested in learning from the story I have to read about it too! And I want to taste my emotions 🤤🥺

@NatureMC

"And all these unknown people caring for nature, doing science during war - they are a living sign of hope. They show humanity in a world that seems to be increasingly brutish. But we should not forget that these people actually make up the majority. That is what it means to be human, not what a handful of aged world destroyers are trying to talk us into believing."
