Instagram suspended our account, one we've never posted from, just added a link to https://pixelfed.org in the bio.

@pixelfed

Coincidence?

I think not!

@pixelfed

Maybe it's not allowed not to post? 🤔

@deusfigendi

Yes, we have also been cracking down an inactive accounts too.

Especially, if you're not part of the problem of us being a successful evil corporation, you're not welcome.

@pixelfed

@pixelfed This is exactly how a good phish would appear.
@AJCxZ0 @pixelfed Since their page is not available, I'd say it's likely real.

@AJCxZ0 @pixelfed I wondered the same thing for a hot minute, especially with that account name! Instagram telling me I'll lose access to pixelfed? Yeah, right.

Oh yeah: fuck Meta.

@pixelfed They must be super scared of you as a competitor.
@miiko @pixelfed they've been censoring alternatives for a while now. They're evil and they're scared
@pixelfed In a way I see that as a good thing. Obviously the work being done by Pixelfed and other federated platforms is being viewed as a threat to the monoliths that run these big tech platforms. Keep up the fight, you'll have my support as long as you do
@pixelfed Maybe they need room on their servers for their shitty AI.
@pixelfed I have had several test accounts without any posts and all of those were closed in a month or so. Banning dormant accounts is one way instagram is trying to prevent all kind of scraping and bot accounts from emerging on their platform. So I would say you would have been better off by posting something
@treedpea @pixelfed Unfortunately not true in some cases. I ran Longwalks 2.0 on IG for 11 months after Longwalks app shut down. The only thing I did was hit the like button a little too much early on, which earned me account restrictions that I didn't repeat. I just posted a family friendly community daily prompt & a related meme. I never showed my face, didn't let fake instahoes follow the page & didn't make money for anyone, & for that I suspect I was suspended & removed. And I'm better off.
@pixelfed maybe time to actually work and push updates to pixelfed ? :)

@pixelfed

Let me confirm your suspicion.

Yes, it was suspended exactly for the reason you believe it was.

We've been cracking down on service providers that provide products or services in direct competition with our own.

Even if we restore it at a later time, expect to be more easily scrutinized.

@pixelfed LoL. They aren't even hiding behind a mask anymore.

Just wait until they get a private army like Russian companies!

@pixelfed they're sore losers
@pixelfed i had uninstall instagram and started uses pixelfed as a healthier alternatve

@pixelfed I heard Instagram are mass purging inactive account.

Lots of influencer are repoeting thousands of lost followers.

@pixelfed if pixelfed joins the diabolic data buisenes, then pixelfed would be welcome
@pixelfed yep, this happens to me while creating and setting up instagram for the first day, forced me to verify my face, put a fake one and disable ^ ^'
@pixelfed Mine is finally almost gone. Full removal in a few weeks. They did the hard work for you.
@pixelfed Start sharing your user data with brokers, insert ads into Pixelfed and introduce AI to your Android app.
They will probably reactivate your account after you have done this. 😅
@pixelfed They're probably trying to hide Pixelfed... Not surprising from meta
@pixelfed if you got suspended by the Markhole, you've done everything right

@pixelfed My advice is to close the account, and also close any other accounts on anything owned by Meta that you control. They cannot be trusted, so spend no further energy growing followers there that will get cut off anyway.

Export all possible useful contacts, attempt to reach followers with a post about where to go, but accept that that might be blocked. Give a week's warning, then shut down other accounts on Meta

@pixelfed I found no official Meta rule banning Pixelfed or links to rival platforms. Reports from 404 Media, Engadget and Daring Fireball say Meta/Facebook removed some pixelfed.social links as “spam” in 2025; Engadget reports Meta later called that removal a mistake. The relevant official rules are Instagram’s Community Guidelines and Meta’s Spam/Inauthentic Behavior policies against spam, scams, and artificially boosting likes, follows, shares, reach, or engagement.

Let go!

@pixelfed in under 10 minutes, this is the second time I see someone mentioning his/her account on IG got banned. And the first one afaik isn't even on the fediverse. 🤔
@pixelfed I had an email saying that the other day too. I think it was because I don't use it. 😂

@pixelfed

take it as a win, dont stay on that shithole

@pixelfed This has happened to me thrice. I honestly don't understand how people are able to use Insta. Not because it's bad, but because of how difficult it is to keep an account for more than a week.
@pixelfed you guys are doing something right :)
@pixelfed I had a hell of a time making an Instagram account for my improv team - they just kept insta-banning it. I have no idea why, it's so annoying :(

@pixelfed

// For example... it's going too far as a bot or spam countermeasure. That's the only reason I don't want to create an Instagram account.   //

@pixelfed Thank god that when I left instagram I met pixelfed, definitely one of the best alternatives I've ever used
