Daily reminder that there are tons of lovely, brilliant, kind Jewish people in the world who aren’t Zionist - the two things have next to nothing to do with one another - and that even as a simple nerd I can make an effort to boycott and refuse to amplify Israeli cybersecurity software and tools.
I don’t care how many followers I lose and enrage with this post. I have firm ethical boundaries. This is unacceptable.
@hacks4pancakes Principles! More people should have them.

@szakib @hacks4pancakes

"These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others."

@Perrin42 @szakib @hacks4pancakes
As per Groucho. Please see my Avatar.

@hacks4pancakes this rly a thing now? :(

Why are ppl in the US treating politics like a fucking football game, where u have to choose your team and fight the other like a fucking redneck hooligan?! It's so weird!

To clarify: talking about ppl who lack the nuance you addressed.

@AwkwardTuring @hacks4pancakes due to social engineering on a massive scale, the dumbing down of the population for years, and many other reasons

This place sucks 😔

@Irishmasms thought about your post yesterday and how I could possibly respond to it :( I'm genuinely sorry ..
@hacks4pancakes Yep, one shouldn't want to have those you'll "lose" about that.
@hacks4pancakes i think this kind o things happen when you cant relate the idea pushed by media/culture with actual living people. There are good humans (and crappy ones also) living in every part of the world. Its kind of a dissociation between characters and persons.
@hacks4pancakes You’re right. If people don’t get it, it’s their problem
@hacks4pancakes Honestly a bit baffled that anyone would not be able to understand this distinction, but... a lot of people seem to really not understand a lot of things, and I guess this is well within scope.
@woozle @hacks4pancakes
For some people it is convenient to not understand things, so they have trained themselves to "not understand" any ethical challenges.
@hacks4pancakes People looks at the words "battle tested" or "proven in the field" and never ask, "on who."

@wendynather @mhoye @hacks4pancakes

The sentence was perfectly clear without any adjustments.

@deirdrebeth I know, I just like giving @mhoye grief. 😉 @hacks4pancakes
@deirdrebeth @hacks4pancakes At some point @wendynather is going to say "*methinks whomst" to me or something at just the wrong moment and I'm going to have five aneurysms at once.
@hacks4pancakes
Well said. Also, as a very much related subject, not all people in Nato countries support Nato, the military alliance that protects Zionism.
@jupito @hacks4pancakes Oh, nice way to use someone else’s post as a soapbox for Russian propaganda, bro
@MisuseCase @hacks4pancakes
Are you saying Nato doesn't protect USA and Israel?
@jupito @hacks4pancakes “Debate me, bro!”

@MisuseCase @hacks4pancakes
Are you saying my comment is not important, or not relevant to the context?

EDIT: To clarify: if we're talking about Zionist colonialism and it's relation to antisemitism, shouldn't we be careful about our own culpability within Nato?

@jupito @hacks4pancakes I’m muting you now
@MisuseCase @hacks4pancakes
No problem, just don't throw me to CECOT. It's not my fault that Nato protects genocide (I don't vote for Nato). By protecting Usa, the whole Nato is abusing Zionism for their own geopolitics; I think that's a very antisemitic thing to do. That's why I see my comment as relevant and important.
@MisuseCase @hacks4pancakes
Besides, you violate server rules: "no personal attacks". It's not about me: it will be harder for everybody to speak about the governments' faults, if critics are being mislabeled as "Russian propaganda" or any other slur.
@hacks4pancakes yes! I had the same thought about the Russian invasion of Ukraine years back. Russians aren't evil, Putin and his coconspirators are. It always comes back to authority because authority will always be bad, power corrupts, it's inevitable.
@hacks4pancakes I hate the conflation between the religious identity and the nationalist drive, and the way the latter has dominated the narrative.

@hacks4pancakes That's me. Worth noting Zionism wasn't a Jewish invention. Earl of Shaftesbury petitioned for Protestant control over Palestine in the 1830s-40s as eschatology.

American Zionism's political base remains overwhelmingly Protestant evangelical.

Boycott UK and American cybersecurity software and tools.

@hacks4pancakes IMHO zionists are just like nazis using Judaism as human/ideology shield so most Jewish people are also victims. Maybe in a different way but victims.

@hacks4pancakes
I had to bite my tongue to avoid saying something like "got to pay for that Iran war" when I heard about an upcoming increase in our renewal cost.

It's really a shame we can't talk politics at work. People should be reminded of what their vote is costing the world.

@hacks4pancakes This is a very cold take. At least it should be.

people who live somewhere =/= the authoritarian state within which they live.

people who follow a religion =/= any state or entity doing evil shit in the name of that religion.

Supporting those entities makes one complicit in their crimes. Standing by in silence while evil shit is ongoing, also makes one complicit.

We're obligated, by ethics and by law, to do whatever we can to stop the harm.

@hacks4pancakes Neither a hot take or something that even needs to be said.

And yet.....

*le sigh*

@hacks4pancakes I've run into multiple (???) situations IRL where I mention something about the zionist interests being deeply embedded in non-Israeli politics (such as the US) and have found out some of my acquaintances are actually just closeted nazis. They're salivating at the chance that someone might be "finally agreeing with them" when in reality they don't know what zionism even is, conflating it to a mere religion. I'm tired.

@hacks4pancakes

It's any kind of fundamentalist religion that does real damage

@hacks4pancakes the Zionist PR machine is very well oiled. Here in Australia you would think that Zionism and Judaism were the same thing based on the media; the conservative, Zionist, Israeli Government aligned Jewish groups are the only ones ever quoted and the media happily publish their PR releases as news

It's as if the anti Zionist Jewish groups didn't exit
