I’m at the airport White Spot for a meal before my flight.

Until last weekend, I hadn’t been to White Spot since last summer and now I’ve been twice in under a week.

Okay, boarded the plane.

I initially could not fit my carryon in the overhead bin and turned bright red in embarrassment as I held up everyone behind me.

I brought my luggage back down and asked for help on the second try and it magically slid in the bin. Thanks to the male passengers behind me who offered to help then congratulated me.

Landed in Kelowna. That was a bumpy descent.

So apparently I’m no longer an anxious person during takeoff and landing. Thank you, acceptance!

Spent the morning hanging out with my mom and some female residents of her retirement home. Lots of nice women. Glad my mom has good people around her.

Someone asked if I was her granddaughter and was surprised when I said I was her daughter. She asked what my secret was and I said moisturizer and staying out of the sun.

Took Mom to get some groceries and now she’s catching up on Coronation Street.

Just came from dinner with my mom and her friends at the retirement home. They have a very good selection and gluten-free options; I really enjoyed everything even though dinner started at 4:30 PM. Another resident’s daughter joined us as well and it was an enjoyable experience with the 6 of us.

Happy to be able to experience what it’s like for my mom living here.

Going through security at the Kelowna airport and my bag is being searched. My luggage always gets searched at this airport. Every. Single. Time.

Took my mom out to lunch before I had to leave for the airport.

Thanks to the kind waitress at the pub we went to for lunch for offering to take a pic of us.

Landed at YVR and am now on the train heading home.

I’m so grateful that I’m no longer anxious taking off and landing. Just inner peace and calm. Still surprised this is my new normal.

I am really enjoying acceptance.

Dementia is heartbreaking.

But on Thursday night, I was helping my mom get ready for bed.

I hugged and kissed her good night once she was in bed. We said we loved each other.

Then she said something that caught me in the feels. She said that I was the best thing that ever happened to her - “my girl” 🥰

I told her I wasn’t expecting that, clutched my heart and told her that I loved her. Many hugs followed.

🥹

I know that one day she may not know me.
