If they can automatically enroll men into the draft at 18, they can automatically register all americans to vote at 18.
Ask yourself why they won't.

Getting really tired of people unclear on the concept.
For selective service, you have to either go to a website yourself, or mail in a postcard. It's NOT automatic, in fact you are required to do it yourself within 30 days of your birthday.
And in my state (not all states, but in mine and some others) they actually DO automatically register you to vote when you go to the DMV, which here you typically do on your birthday.
No offense, but in most regards, your memes are ass backwards.
I came on to basically say the same thing. You beat me to it.
What's ass backwards is saying it is NOT automatic and at same time say some states are automatic.
What's also ass backwards is not being automatically registered to vote not having to pay a poll tax for a special ID, unable to just send in a postcard to be registered.
What's also ass backwards is downplaying the reinstatement of the automatic draft during warmongering 30-40 years ago, iRAN 1980, Desert storm type BS...
Carter actually reinstated registering in 1980, July.
@SCALETHEORY whats ass backwards is being upset that the reg for the draft is now automatic. who gives a fuck if its bits or pisscards, the fucking draft is wrong but everyone here butthurt over which FUCKING SYSTEM is possible.
get the fuck over yourselves amd go check your own voter reg, just like I do IN THE STATE WITH AUTO REG
FUCK YOUR NANNY STATE
@Eetschrijver @grrlscientist in the UK voter registration is not automatic, you have to make the effort to claim it, so further proof we are not a civilised democracy either.
"Previously, the 'head of household' was responsible for registering everyone who lived at the address, but now every individual is responsible for their own voter registration. The new system also means that people are now able to register online. Anyone newly registering under the new system will need to register themselves individually by filling out a paper or online form."

@xerge @marjolica @Eetschrijver @grrlscientist In Australia we have to register ourselves to vote. Once you’re registered you’re legally required to vote at every relevant election from local council up to federal. But if you never register, you can avoid voting. I’ve only ever met one adult in my entire life who admitted to not registering.
Aussies overwhelmingly view voting as both a privilege and a civic duty.
@praetor @grrlscientist But surely the state legislature can change the party affiliation rule at the same time as they decide to "automatically register" people?
The whole concept of "automatically registering" is backwards anyway. There shouldn't be any registering of anything. When you register to vote, don't they check that against something, and why isn't that the register in the first place?
@grrlscientist Ah, but, there's a big difference. Be aware that no such scheme will be 100% accurate, and ask yourself what are the consequences of false positives:
* for the draft, you get more cannon fodder than you're actually entitled to - which is useful and therefore good
* for the vote, you might allow people to vote who shouldn't - which is catastrophically bad
If they can automatically enroll men into the draft at 18, they can automatically register Americans to vote at 18.
Ask yourself why they won't.
@grrlscientist In Germany, they do the latter.

@grrlscientist "Would you stop pestering me with stupid questions you already know the answer to???"
I think I annoyed myself.
"questions, always with the questions" - the only those registered to daft can vote act
