It is deeply funny to me that Mastodon is a place where AI bros cry because they can't get any traction, but a single picture of moss can give anyone, no matter their other content or follower count, positive feedback for the rest of time.
Try it. Post a picture of moss. See what happens.
pro-AI people, stay out of my mentions <3 I don't like you, I don't respect you, and if you try to engage me in a debate, I *will* drag you
@paparatti it's the moss echo chamber!! run for your lives!!1!
@paparatti Next time I touch grass - or in this case, moss - I might try it β€‹

@paparatti I've actually been sitting on some (previously unpublished) macro photographs of moss, so lets give this a shot

https://functional.cafe/@hungryjoe/116360499513364944

@hungryjoe hashtag it! It needs the #mosstodon final touch!
@paparatti That wasn't part of your original pitch :P
@hungryjoe that's the part you're supposed to work out by yourself! Everything gets a hashtag, for your own sanity and the good of someone else's organic search.
@paparatti @hungryjoe To be fair, if it's a good moss pic, someone will comment that it needs the mosstodon hashtag to let all the other mosspeople check it out. (At least that's what I hope.)
@paparatti I didn't doubt you, but even so, I'm amazed by the magnitude of the effect

@paparatti
How about a digital block of moss. It is moss, yet it is artificial! What will happen? What would John Mastodon do?

#mosstodon #minecraft

@paparatti I saw some moss on the dog walk yesterday, and was thinking, hm, I should take a picture of the moss. it's moss season. I neglected to take that photo but I will next time!
@jef @paparatti LichenSubscribe is peak hashtagging.
@jef @paparatti Thanks! This reminded me of the round patch of orange lichen at the bottom of a wall I had to photograph last week during a trip to Belgium. And the moss strip just over the waterline in the canals of Brugge! Is there some subtle fedi influence going on? I can not remember taking any #lichensubscribe or #Mosstodon pictures before.

@acka47 @jef @paparatti

Look at that orange color!

@jef @paparatti

Beautiful patterns!

@paparatti

Can’t get engagement on your posts bro? Idk I don’t have that problem, must be a you thing

(Posts desperate pleas for help about my garden)

@paparatti a cat on moss would cause riots.
@Pedi @paparatti damn, I came here to make that joke but you beat me to it πŸ˜…
@paparatti You know you could just ask if you were in need of new moss pictures 😁

@paparatti Due to a conversation I had the other day, I feel compelled to share a random photo (not mine) of Moss, Norway

@freya yet another perfect example of moss! Thank you!

@paparatti are you trying to say that what people like in these pictures is the moss?

@paparatti
Ok, but you should tag #mosstodon if you want to see some moss.
@lysdexic @paparatti man that's good moss
@adr @lysdexic @paparatti that response genuinely made me laugh. And I needed that.
@paparatti I think that even conversations about liking moss will give you traction πŸ˜€
@paparatti @BlippyTheWonderSlug Oh yeah, some of my old #DogsOfMastodon posts still get a second (third, fourth, fifth) wind even after a month of inactivity.
@paparatti The fediverse is good. That's why it will pass. Nothing good stays. Everything good goes away eventually.
@paparatti Don't jinx it, they'll just spam AI-generated slop images of moss until people give up on following mosstodon
@skyfaller @paparatti I have some hope that our federated moderation practices would make something like that a lot harder to pull off than on a centralized platform.
@paparatti - I was talking with an #instagram friend about some irritating reply on Mastodon from the other day and they said "Oh, you need to give the algorithm feedback if you don't want to see that type of thing" and I just said ... there is no algorithm.. and you could see the mixed look of awe and horror at the thought. #mastodon
