I think it's time for a #reintroduction post. I've been on Mastodon since 2024 and hanging out at The Mended Drum for over a year, and I'm doing a bit of remodeling on my feed. I'd love to make some new friends, and I would also appreciate any hashtag recommendations to follow!

I'll expound on some of my favorite authors, artists, genres, and titles in a thread.

#Books:

According to #StoryGraph, I mainly read #fiction books that are adventurous, dark, and mysterious. I especially love #fantasy and #scifi, but I also enjoy mysteries, thrillers, and romance.

Some of my favorite authors are Anne McCaffrey, Terry Pratchett, Stephen King, Brandon Sanderson, Robert R. McCammon, David Sedaris, and Diana Gabaldon.

Series and titles I love include The Talisman, Mistborn, Discworld, Outlander, Dragonriders of Pern, Wheel of Time, Murderbot Diaries, Earthseed, and Memoirs of a Geisha. Currently enjoying the Dungeon Crawler Carl and Spellmonger series.

#Music:

I grew up #singing in chorus and was in an all-girl a cappella group and a co-ed music service fraternity in college. Now I mostly just sing in the shower. I enjoy making playlists on #Deezer.

I love #rockmusic, but my taste is pretty eclectic. Pop, funk, hip-hop, bluegrass, soul, disco, musicals, zydeco; as long as it's uptempo and the vocals aren't bad or overly screamy, I'll likely be into it. I especially love piano and horns.

My absolute favorite band is Carbon Leaf, who I would describe as kind of indie folk rock with frequent Celtic vibes. They're super fun live. I've seen them 16 times at 11 different venues (if you count two stages at a festival separately).

I also love The Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John, Scissor Sisters, Twenty One Pilots, Lady Gaga, Ben Folds, Chicago, Lake Street Dive, Queen, Trombone Shorty, and Tide Lines.

@djtoebeans Hello! It's not very often that someone's post lands in my feeds for several different hashtags, so I wanted to say hi. I especially love fantasy, Terry Pratchett and kitties, and share a lot of your other likes and dislikes too. (Peri/menopause is currently the bane of my existence)

And happy belated birthday!

@justelise Hello! And thank you! 🥰

Oof, the brain fog and night hots are definitely getting me lately. So fun! 😬 At least there are good books I can escape into when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep.

@djtoebeans Yeah, I'm not a fan of that either haha. I really miss getting decent sleep 😞 I have the same routine. I use ereader apps on my phone, so I just grab it and read myself back to sleep...or until I give up and get out of bed. Those nights are the worst :( Right now I'm reading T. Kingfisher's Clockwork Boys. I wouldn't say it's sleep-inducing but it's cool :)

@justelise I read ebooks on my Kobo, and in the wee hours I turn the brightness way down. I like that it turns off if I do fall asleep so I don't lose my spot.

I haven't read that one, but I really liked Nettle & Bone. Definitely need to read some more of her books.

@djtoebeans That's the one annoying thing about using my phone, that its idea of dim is not ideal. But saving your place is one of the things I love about it too

I haven't read many of her books yet either, but I love the ones I've read so far (Wizard's Guide, 7th Bride). I'm not in the mood for much horror lately (there's enough real horror I'd rather escape), so I've been a little cautious about which of hers I pick

Have you found any gems lately? I just finished a mini Pratchett binge haha

@justelise Yeah, the e-ink screen definitely has its benefits. The battery life is also fantastic compared to my phone. It lasts about two weeks on airplane mode, I think.

I'm really enjoying the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, but it can be pretty gruesome. Have you read any Alix E. Harrow? I read The Everlasting in February and it was really good. I also liked The Once and Future Witches and The Ten Thousand Doors of January.

I could probably do with a Pratchett binge myself.
