They've been pulling it down from their site, but until recently Red Hat was proudly advertising how they could use AI to kill people more efficiently.

@mhoye Continue to be 0% upset that my number came up in the 2023 layoffs.
@mhoye JFC
@netopwibby Yeah. IBM's got a history here, you know? People have written books about it.
@mhoye @netopwibby
Yeah, this is really on-brand for IBM.
@mhoye [brick wall nightclub background] "so you know how sometimes you talk to people about the Kill Chain and they look at you like you're some kind of murderer? haha what's up with that anyway? i'm just talking about the Kill Chain!!"

@mhoye nope, nope nope, fuck that.

No I do not want autonomous target assignment thanks. Nope. Corporate death penalty for all of them.

@mhoye

Tired: expanding blockchain
Wired: compressed killchain

@mhoye This is exactly what happens when you hire ex-military into your Gov’t/Mil sector sales org, then accidentally publish into your public sector marketing collateral
@mhoye Jesus fucking goomba Christ.
@mhoye ........ WHAT THE FUCK
@mhoye I thought they must have obfuscated the language at least but holy hell.

@mhoye
Perfect illustration of why it isn't sufficient to just be FOSS/FLOSS anymore*. A statement of ethics and a proper governance structure must live alongside.

* and never was, though it was a marginally better proxy metric in the past

@toolbear @mhoye Debian FTW.
@Steve
I consider genAI use to be unethical, so nope for Debian at the moment unfortunately.
@mhoye
@toolbear @mhoye Did I miss a memo?
@Steve
Debian, unlike say Gentoo, hasn't adopted a ban on genAI contributions.
@mhoye holy shit, it's almost like IBM was involved in the holocaust or something
@stardust @mhoye Nope, also completely deranged afterwards. He's not been working for RH for years and making a retroactive connection for something some marketing ass did years later to say "hurr durr maybe death threats for systemd are okay" with a milk toast denial of not condoging this, but *wink wink* it's context, is just vile.

@lbky @mhoye Not condoning it means not condoning it. Words matter.

Don't you think it helps to know/understand what instigates such deranged reactions instead of them seemingly having no rationale whatsoever? Wouldn't you more understand the why behind a knee-jerk reaction to a company that prides itself on actually killing people more efficiently? If Red Hat does unethical things now, they may have been doing something similar then.

@mhoye More like Red Hands (because they have blood on them)
@mhoye "Use edge technology to defeat the adversary" more like "murder innocents at a great distance with great impunity"
