MAGA: DEI is weakness!! diversity is bad!

SEATTLE: *chuckling* The most diverse neighborhood in America is Federal Way in Seattle.

MAGA: socialism never works!

SEATTLE: *folding our arms* just for that we're going to socialism even harder. we just elected a socialist Mayor.

MAGA: feminism is the downfall of society!

SEATTLE: *wiping our brow* our female socialist mayor just built the world's first floating train system.

MAGA: but you can't just raise minimum wage to $10/hr. All the job creators will leave!

SEATTLE: *nostrils flaring* you're right let's make it double that instead.

MAGA: but all the billionaires will leave!

SEATTLE: *eyes flashing* you don't have to sell us on it. it's $21.30/hr now.

MAGA: you'll collapse! this is the end of civilization! what the fuck are you doing??

SEATTLE: *levitating three feet above the ground* we just voted in a wealth tax targeting billionaires and became the fastest growing economy in the entire country while sheltering trans folks and immigrants what the fuck are you gonna do about it bitches

@Lana

"Oh yeah? Well the price of living will make you all crawl back!"

Yeah no sweetie, I just spent a week in the PNW and it was cheaper to eat in Seattle than it is in Phoenix.

Food was way better, too.

@TeflonTrout It's fresh. Most of the food in the PNW is grown within a hundred miles of the table, a lot is closr than that. If you get a fish kabob it was alive that morning. Even better than the pork here in the flyover states, and that is high praise. @Lana
@Lana
I like it, but... Calling Federal Way a neighborhood of Seattle is making my face twitch. Ballard is a neighborhood in Seattle. Federal Way is it's own city in the Seattle Tacoma Metropolitan Area.
@evantd @Lana We're all just part of Greater Pugetopolis, the largest city in Cascadia.
@Lana dammit Seattle what did I say about this. youโ€™re too awesome. you make the rest of the west coast look bad with how awesome you are. keep doing it, it hurts just right
@Lana I miss Seattle sometimes
@Lana there is still hope for the USA?
The fight in Europe is also on. With facist regimes in Hungary and Slovakia supported by MAGA facist.
@Lana Okay, now let's talk about rent prices ...
@JessTheUnstill @Lana woke is easy. housing is hard (for west coast cities)
@Lana this toot needs to win some sort of award

@Lana We're not perfect, but yes, we have a lot of good things going for us.

Housing prices are high, both rent and for purchase.

Gas prices are about $1.60 higher than the national average.

I'd still rather live here than elsewhere.

@rayk I mean... Depends on where you look. If you're committed to living *in* Seattle proper, yeah rent sucks big time. But hubby and I rent a 2-BR right on the shores of Lake Washington for 2k.
@Lana @rayk 2 bedrooms for $2,000? No, honestly, that isnโ€™t that much worse than Eugene.
@Lana wait really?? i didn't know about most of this. floating trains?? like maglev??

@kirakira @Lana Seattle (King County) built the first fully functioning rail system that runs on a floating bridge.

Tons of engineering challenges.

Huge Crowds Turn Out To Finally Ride Light Rail Across Lake Washington

Tens of thousands of riders came out to ride the 2 Line across Lake Washington Saturday, as Sound Transit inaugurated the light rail link between the east and west metro.

The Urbanist
@kirakira @Lana what they mean is the world-first rail line over a floating bridge. However this achievement has absolutely nothing to do with Katie Wilson. It was a 20 year old project of Sound Transit funded by voters from all over the area, which they finally finished a week ago. And I wish my fellow Seattle progressives wouldn't try so hard to bend the facts to fit the "female socialist mayor" narrative. She was only there for 3 months, we don't know how effective she's going to be.
@Lana Seattle has a lot going for it but let's not pretend it's some kind of socialist utopia pls
@Lana like it's not unusual for rich Seattleites to see unhoused people as subhuman, gentrification is rampant, etc
@Lana @MuseumJoe Itโ€™s the same braindead logic that, with the power of all those slaves, the South surely has an advantage the North can never beat!
@Lana As a Seattleite who agrees the right wing talking points are garbage, Seattle is also incredibly racist and has driven it's black and brown populations out of the state at a level not seen since the Jim Crow south. It's the worst place I've been for weaponizing progressive values in ways that promote racist policy, especially around zoning, homelessness and environmentalism. Watching groups like Save the Cedar River protect their wealthy neighborhood at the expense of Skyway.....
@Lana Also, Federal Way ain't Seattle, Seattle priced diversity out long ago with hostile housing policy which is why it's in Kent, Federal Way, Burien, etc.
